After a brief introduction to Pro Ball following the long OSU season and the CWS, Jake will be ready for a promotion to High-A in the Red Sox organization next year. In his abbreviated rookie season with the Short Season-A Lowell Spinners in the New York-Pennsylvania League, he had a solid performance.
Appearing in 7 games with 7 starts, Thompson pitched 11 1/3 innings, allowing 7 runs (3 unearned) on 10 hits for a respectable 3.18 ERA. He punched out 11 hitters and walked 6 holding the opponents to a .238 BA. His win-loss record was 0-3 with a WHIP of 1.41.

More likely that he starts in regular full-season A. He would be repeating the level if he was in short-season A again, and teams are often more likely to rush an older guy (Jake turned 23 last month) than they are to hold him back. I think it's more likely he'd be promoted to Advanced A than repeat short-season A, but the standard approach would be for him to go to regular full-season A to start 2018.

And I'll admit to not watching the Sox more closely to understand their developmental philosophy. If he were a Giant ...
