Dumb idea... Sac is dumb locale... But, if it comes to pass the regular season winner hosts top 8. Bottom 6 play one another... 6v11, 7v10, 8v9... higher seed hosts. The three winners come to 8 team tourney... #1/host seed gets lowest remaining seed in prime TV spot opening day, #2 the next and so on. Why is Sacramento a "dumb" location? Centralized, neutral field, nice AAA facility. These tournaments always look like a joke when they are played in a MLB stadium with hardly any fans.

So it would be better to be in a smaller stadium and empty than an MLB stadium and empty? If it is somewhere like Seattle, it's a place that people would be more likely to go, or on an actual campus, like the #1 seeds campus. I know I wouldn't travel to Sacramento for the tournament, but I would certainly go to OSU or up to Safeco Field.

Casey has come out in favor of a conference tournament in the past. RPI is set up to reward teams that play more conference games. Plus, it eliminates the problem of Oregon State last year, trying to find a team that does not play in a tournament the final weekend. The SEC plays 30 conference games and a conference tournament. It seems to kill them every year, amiright? I am not sure about holding a tournament in the Central Valley, but I really like the idea of a conference tournament. The Pac-12 can finally compete with the ACC and SEC. Great! We will remove the problem of getting OOC opponents during the last weekend (only the team that has a conference bye on the last weekend of the season), but we will have to find a lot more mid-week opponents to come up with 56 regular-season games. Oregon State only played four mid-week games last year and had six on calendar. All the Beavers would need to do is bump that up to nine (add three mid-week games) on calendar. Three extra mid-week games. And with a conference tournament, Oregon State would not need to schedule 56 games, because the tournament would bring the total up. LSU scheduled a division 2 team to fill out their schedule (which does not count in RPI) last year. Tennessee only scheduled 54 games and only played 52. If we go to a 54-game schedule, we would only need to add one more mid-week game.

How many people can afford a trip to Omaha and a trip to the tournament? Well... I'm not sure, but almost positive it's not one of the deciding factors by those that make the decision. And... my personal opinion, if you've been to Omaha a couple times it's better on TV. I love the regionals and Supers much more in person. Maybe just me, but of there was a conference tourney, especially in a fun town, I'd tell others to budget for that. Assuming they've been there, done Omaha.

I'm just saying I think it's more difficult for OSU to get extra mid-week games than it is to get a non-conference foe once every 5 years when we have the conference bye on the last weekend. I think most schools attempt to play the full 56. SaveSave

If Casey's ok w/it I'm ok w/it. Scheduling issues aside, coach Pat Casey thinks it would be beneficial for the Pac-12 to add a conference tournament. Casey said the league’s coaches voted on it roughly a decade ago but were shot down. “Some of the administrators felt like we’d miss too much class, which is somewhat ironic because then they went ahead and shrunk the season to 13 weeks and made us play 56 games,” Casey said. “So I believe that it was probably something other than that. I think it would be good for our conference. I think we should look at it.” Casey sees a conference tournament as an opportunity for more RPI-boosting wins. There’s also a chance for bubble teams to play their way in — or out — of the NCAA tournament. Link.

How about Vegas as a site? Seems like a great trip if you could swing it.

How about Vegas as a site? Seems like a great trip if you could swing it. Why think small? Dodger Stadium. Largest baseball stadium in the world. 56,000. Oregon State fans are good for, what, 6,000 tickets? Just need the other 10 teams to buy up the other 50,000. Chase Field holds 49,033. Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum holds 47,170. Safeco holds 47,116. Angel Stadium of Anaheim holds 45,050. Petco Park holds 42,445. AT&T Park holds 41,503. Smith's Ballpark holds 15,411 in Salt Lake City. Sloan Park in Mesa holds 15,000. Raley Field in Sacramento holds 14,011. Is that where they are thinking of holding it? Other stadiums: Camelback Ranch in Glendale (13,000); Peoria Sports Complex (12,882); HoHoKam Park in Mesa (12,623); Chukchansi Park in Fresno (12,500); Scottsdale Stadium (12,000); Tucson Electric Park (11,500); and Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale (11,000). Each of those would be bigger than Hoover (10,800 in SEC Tournament configuration). The biggest baseball stadium in Nevada is Cashman Field (9,334 but the attendance record is 15,025 for a Cubs-White Sox preseason game). Cashman is a dump, though. There are plans to replace Cashman with another ballpark in 2019 on the southwest part of town. It would only seat 10,000. Maybe the Pac-12 can work to get that number up into the Raley Field range?

In this case size does not matter. The West Coast Conference (Gonzaga, UP, USF, etc) holds their conference tournament in Stockton. Most games have less than 1000 attendees. I think if the Pac-12 held the tournament in Sacramento, attendance may be double that!
Regarding the WCC tournament, I had some pre-preliminary conversations about moving that tournament to Roseburg. For full disclosure I don't know anything about sports promotion, but just thought that it may be good for Roseburg and get around 2500/game. I think someone more motivated may be able to make that happen.
For the Pac-12, is there ever more than 100 or so visiting fans? I know for a UW - OSU game there was something like 14k at Safeco, but I think that was more about the uniqueness. I'm thinking the host should be the regular season champ.

However 440 to right seating that can see the field is additional cost sabr.org/research/home-no-other-dodgers-la-memorial-coliseum
