He deserves it! We don't want to lose him, he is in my opinion, one of the best women's coaches out there. I'd hate to have him on the opposing bench.

As an Angels fan, I'm terrified of 10 year contracts.

Stanford, ND, Connecticut, Tennessee, why not OSU? Congrats to a great coach and even better person.

As an Angels fan, I'm terrified of 10 year contracts. agreed.dumb as giving Riley 'another year' every time he hit 6 wins... Rueck is great, but do we want to gamble on 10 years? Lots of stuff can happen in 10 years. Like taking a program from the grave to 4 consecutive ncaa tournaments, a couple of sweet 16s and a final four appearance. 3 straight pac 12 championships. A program full of ladies who are great people and students, many academic all Americans. Oh wait, it's only been 7 years. I look forward to watching his teams for many years to come. And there is no comparison between Riley and Rueck

Lots of stuff can happen in 10 years. I agree that adding a year to Riley's contract every time he hit 6 wins got us in trouble, and was likely a bad move (though he was in demand at times elsewhere). That said, I think a quick read of the press release about SR is in order. 7 year Summary: four-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year three-time WBCA Region Coach of the Year Naismith Trophy National Coach of the Year finalist the last two seasons led the Beavers to three consecutive Pac-12 titles, as OSU joined Stanford as the only team in conference history to accomplish that feat helped the Beavers snap an 18-year NCAA Tournament drought in 2013-14 Oregon State has since proceeded to make the tournament in four-straight seasons, including back-to-back Sweet 16 runs and a Final Four appearance in 2016. Rueck has guided the team to a 90-15 record since the start of the 2014-15 campaign Oregon State peaked in the 2015-16 WBCA/USA Today postseason poll, coming in at No. 2 Sydney Wiese, Ruth Hamblin and Jamie Weisner have all been selected in the WNBA Draft over the last two years Oregon State one of five programs in the nation to have three players taken in the first two rounds over that span. Rueck has the highest winning percentage of any coach in Oregon State history victorious in 65.3 percent of his team's contests for an overall record of 153-81 known for teaching outstanding team defense, as Oregon State has allowed just 56.4 points per game during his seven seasons Beavers have earned 27 Pac-12 All-Academic individual honors over the last seven seasons, including a program record seven in 2016 Wiese became the first Oregon State athlete to win the Senior CLASS Award last season Hamblin was named a Senior CLASS Award All-American the year prior Wiese and Hamblin were also named Pac-12 Scholar Athletes of the Year in 2017 and 2016, respectively Oregon State joined Stanford as the only teams to have players take the honor in consecutive seasons If this isn't a coach you want to give as long of a contract as you can muster, I am not sure who you would..... Go Beavers!

2ndGenBeaver - - I'd say you pretty much nailed it !! There's not another coach in America the Beavs would trade for straight across. So why not keep what you got? This is an agreement that totally favours the Beavs....
One additional point. Coach is 48 years old. 48 !!
Basketball is a game where great coaches are still going strong in their 60's. The best Assistant Coaches in the game will be standing in line for an opening at OSU with Coach R at the helm. And this is no small matter when you are in the process of trying to establish your program as a perennial powerhouse.
GO BEAVS......

If he wants a 10 year commitment from OSU - give it to him.

I'm not saying this is a dumb move. I'm just saying that it definitely doesn't allow us any sort of wiggle room if things go south.
Geno Auriemma just signed a deal for half as long.
Dawn Staley, who just won a national championship, has a seven year deal.
Now, you can say that given that both of them are making multiple millions a year that they aren't going anywhere anyways, and in order for us to compete, we have to add years since we can't add much money. I get that. That's exactly what we did with Riley. Like Riley in 2010, he is coming off of the best run in his sport in school history. Again, I'm not saying this will happen, but everyone points to 2010 (or when Riley got the "lifetime" contract) as the declining point in our football program.
I'm happy Rueck is our coach, and I'm happy we are working aggressively to keep him in Corvallis. I'm just saying 10 year deals make me nervous, because more often than not they don't work out well.

Riley's team never finished 2nd in the final national polls (2016 OSU WBB) www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/rankings/_/year/2016/week/4/seasontype/3

WBB won't bring in as much revenue in the next 10 years as 1-2 years of a winning football program. Many of the current programs owe their financial existence to what MR did... despite BDC and his poor decisions. Let's not even talk about the aspect of winning in WBB to D1/P5 football. The proof is right here in Corvallis! But, both were done for the same reasoning... to keep the most successful coach in that sport's history. Coaches that "fit" Corvallis, are good people, and run clean programs. In guessing in offering a long extension there are performance based out clauses... on both sides. Otherwise, 10 year contracts, especially in the coaching profession are not wise, and not the norm for a reason. SR is good for OSU, good for the WBB program, good for the young ladies involved. Just as MR was for football for most of his career. Kudos to both men.

If things “Go South”...there’s no one I’d rather have Point them back ‘North’ again than Rueck. He’s already proven he’s capable of just that very thing.

How much money has our football team brought in, I'm asking because I don't know? What sports owe their existence to MR? How can we talk about winning in football, our program is mediocre at best. I'm not sure how it can be easier to win at one sport over others, they are all d1with roughly the same number of teams. It is just that some sports have developed or are developing a winning culture, unfortunately beaver football is not one of them. We have had a good year or two once in awhile, but nothing sustained. I think that Casey has more to do with the prevailing attitude of beaver sports than Riley ever did. So they won the pacific conference 5 times total, 1941, 1956, 1957, 1964, and 2000. The last bowl game we played before the big corporate sponsored bowl expansion was the 1965 rose bowl, which we lost. Our last win was 1962.

Do you often just go off the deep end and try to completely change the topic? Value? Winning? Winning culture? Lol... So, back to the topic and my post. Comparing SR and MR is foolish. But, both were done with good intent. Football drives the entire athletic department, in every D1 school. Mediocre or not, football brings in the big dollars. When it suffers so does the athletic department and every other sport. Attitude doesn't pay the bills. Winning culture wasn't the topic... of the thread or my post. If I remember Prof's numbers, WBB and baseball only now break even.
