Compare Craig Robinson's first two seasons to Wayne Tinkle's first two seasons: - Both took over terrible teams with no expectations
- Both turn those teams into contenders playing very deliberate basketball - '08-09 Beavs averaged 60.8 ppg, '14-15 Beavs averaged 60.9.
- Both have huge influx of talent before year two, and BOTH START 2-4 in conference with a win over the Ducks.
The big difference is that Wayne was a much more accomplished coach before coming to Oregon State and I have confidence that things will get turned around.
Just FYI: That '09-10 team finished the year 8-10 in conference, but the conference was much worse that year top to bottom than it is now. Only two teams were ranked in AP poll at any point during the season (Cal was ranked preseason but fell out after starting 2-2), UW was ranked up until the first week of January.)

I hear ya. But CR's 2nd year squad, if it's the one that got beat by Boston U in the vaunted CBI, was pretty bad compared to this team

Making the jump from getting a group of beaten-down kids to rally around a system for a year is significantly easier than developing a system that can attract, retain and allow upper-tier talent to succeed and make the (real) postseason. Both proved they could achieve the former (although I'd argue WT had much less to work with his first year). CR proved he could not do the latter. We won't know if WT can for a few more years. I do agree that we should remind ourselves that what WT accomplished last year wasn't particularly extraordinary.
