Frankly, not much to cover in the first hour. We talked about Sydney Wiese being in the WNBA Championship, though apparently she's not getting much playing time in the playoffs. I just now went to wnba.com for the first time in my life, and I can tell you that she averaged 7.9 MPG, 2.3 PPG, 0.3 APG and shot 38.3% from the field (40% on 3's) during the regular season. She has played one minute in one game of the playoffs. We talked about Jacoby Ellsbury playing in the MLB playoffs. He went 0-4 last night. We had an interview with Isaiah Dunn, who talked about his first extended run in a game and how he learned that Pac-12 teams are "a lot smarter" than high school teams. He said a guy he watches in the NFL that he tries to learn from is Jacksonville Jaguar Jalen Ramsey, a second year player from Florida State. Said he watches his film from college vs. his film from the pros to see if he can pick up on how his technique has changed or what he might've improved on. I thought that was an interesting approach I'd never heard of before. Oh, there was a lot of talk about Ad Rutschman, why I'm not sure. But Mike Parker made the claim that if you asked Bill Belichick about Ad Rutschman, he'd know who you were referring to. I'd love to see someone test that theory. Also, Jon Warren claimed that the term jet sweep is incorrect and that it is really the fly sweep originated at Willamette and brought to the masses by Riley via James Rodgers. The only reason anyone calls it the jet sweep is because Brent Musberger called it that one time and Kirk Herbstreit picked up on it and it went from there. Parker was skeptical. I like the idea of Musberger just making up his own term on the fly (pun intended) and everyone going with it, but I doubt that's the actual story. Hour two starts with a call from Paul who wants to talk about something Kevin McGiven said yesterday, about what he learned from watching USC vs. WSU. He never says what McGiven's answer was, but Paul's answer is that WAZZU IS AWESOME. All Cougs all the time. Later on, Mike and Jon discuss Luke Falk and if he's the best QB in the conference (Warren's a Rosen guy, Mike kind of rides the fence between Rosen, Darnold, and Falk.) They played an interview with David Morris, but to be honest I didn't really pay attention. It didn't interest me. Mostly just rehashing the UW game and his pick off of Browning. A little bit of USC talk - wilkyisdashiznit will have to verify this, but apparently USC, in celebrating their 1967 team, claims that their only blemish that season was a 3-0 defeat to the Beavers "in the mud and the rain." Warren says it didn't rain and it was just a product of the field being watered down, Mike thinks it may have rained during the game, and I always thought that I heard it poured the night before, creating the muddy conditions. DFT calls in to say he hates the Yankees but wants Jacoby to do well. At this point my stream cut out and I missed a couple minutes, but it sounds like he got kicked off the air as well, as the first thing I heard when I got re-connected was "and we're back, hopefully we have a better connection with Dave." Dave wants to talk about USC's record vs. other Pac-12 teams. We have one more win than WSU does (suck it, Cougs), and Colorado has never beaten them. UCLA has the most success vs. USC, but still is 15 games under .500 against them. Dan calls in to say he's a Red Sox fan. That's really it. He doesn't watch Yankee games and so Jacoby, while not dead to him, is definitely "in a dark place." Some fun talk about the 1964 team going to the Rose Bowl over USC, and how USC fans felt robbed and Oregon State was booed in the 1965 Rose Bowl because the locals felt they weren't deserving. Jon mentions something about the basketball team being booed at Pauley Pavillion in 1980, but I don't know that story and they don't elaborate. More USC talk, trying to determine their "Giant Killer" game - a game that they point back to as a landmark in their program. Nobody can come up with one, but they then discuss Washington vs. USC and how USC won 3 straight Rose Bowls to close out the 1980's, but Washington beating USC 31-0 in 1990 signaled the ascension of Don James' program. Jon Warren says he remembers going to a UW vs. USC game in Seattle in 1980 or 81 where the Huskies won, and what a big deal that was. Turns out it could've been either season: the Huskies won in Seattle over USC both seasons. They pay an interview with Clune, where he says a lot of not very interesting things (Darnold is good, he can run, USC doesn't go tempo that much although they can, and we've got to be ready for it. Said UW catching them in tempo is on him and they've got to do better.) Shifting back to our team, we talk about Jonathan Smith and how he told Mike Parker that our defense is not that far off. Mike suggests it might be a little coach speak, but Jonathan is not the kind of guy to just blow sunshine up Parker's butt (my words, not Parker's). That's about it. the BWW Beaver Sports Talk show tonight will feature CGA, Ryan Nall, and Telly Lockette. We close with a drinkable moment, as the station identification plays over Mike Parker as he tries to tell you Terrence Gray will be the guest in studio tomorrow.

Jet Sweep and Fly Sweep are interchangeable terms for the same basic thing.
Fly Sweep is the popular naming convention in a wing-T or double wing offense and a wing back is the runner. It is considered a staple play of that offense.
Jet Sweep is the name most people apply when a WR in a more conventional offense alignment goes in motion. that is really about it. It is truely a potato-potahto type of thing here.
Fly sweep at a term, I do believe came first, but Jet sweep is just as ubiquitous. any offense using a winged approach would have that play in place. I do think you can credit Riley with making it popular again, as the motion had died off. Really nobody else in a major level of football was running the play until James Rodgers made it a thing.
FWIW, when I played football in the 1990s in high school (West Albany), Crescent Valley was a winged offense and ran fly sweeps.

Regarding the 1967 USC game - I didn't attend (I was four) but the video I've seen does not look muddy. I'd always heard "mud and rain" but just by the bits of that video, it was not that bad. I'd be very curious to see more still photos and more extensive video. I'm sure it was wet but I don't think it was worse than that.

This focus on a game 50 years ago is only making me feel old........I know it is a big reunion weekend for the Beavs, but would like more talk about 2000 or later wins - I snuck out of the house in 2000 because my wife didn't want me going to the game for some weird reason, got one of the last remaining walkup tickets, and then watched KS run by me in the se corner to score the td that iced the game. I think our entire section spent the last quarter praying. And Raj the wonder possum's 100 yard dash - I have never seen a possum run that far or so many players stand there bemused for so long. We need Raj to return!

It was a nice day on Saturday, Nov. 11th (Veteran's Day) but it had rained all week and the field had really loose footing on the natural grass. Ronald Reagan and Tom McCall (governors of California and Oregon at the time) were in Albany for the parade that day before the game and then came over to Corvallis for the game. They had a bet which consisted of a Chinook salmon versus a case of California Napa County wine (if memory serves). Tom won the bet, obviously.

I happened to be in the car for about 15 minutes during the Morris interview and the Fly Sweep-Jet Sweep Muddle-Huddle great debate.. Was laughing at how extremely uncomfortable MP got when Warren was gushing over what a handsome guy David Morris is. I believe there was a Sabby Piscitelli reference and "Male Model" thrown out there by JW. From now on, I'm calling David Morris "Zoolander".

Ha! I missed that...went to the bathroom during the hour break and missed the lead in to hour two. My sister in law is a big Sabby fan as well and assume she'd take great offense to anyone being compared to him.

Was that also the first date of the lovely (and future) Mrs Ramp? I thought you said that one time. Or am i remembering another victim date? Just so I can bury this where no one else will find it. Scout did a projection of the score (10,000 iterations). If you got 34 points you are in good shape. Bet da house! Your final score 54-15

Booing basketball team in 1980 at Pauley probably related to us winning Pac-10 title in 80. Also, when UCLA came to Gill, an hour before the game the student section was packed, and when their cheerleaders entered they were greeted with a thunderous U-C-L-A with an F in front of it.

USC's trip to Corvallis was the first time that the Trojans actually made the trip to Corvallis. All of Oregon State's previous home games were in Portland. I think most of the Trojans' complaining was just because Oregon State actually made them go to Corvallis.

I could do that - but really the information is out there if people want to find it. This takes up enough of my time as it is. And yes, the Terrence Gray interview is great, particularly the moment when Jon asks such an incomprehensible question that Terrence doesn't respond and Mike is forced to move on.

Was Jon's question something along the lines of: If Tyranareaus Rex had a Snickers bar would all the other animals still fear them? I mean like would they go tripping over T Rex toes? And teasing T Rex? And...how good are the Cougs? If the pirate was in Corvallis would the players still have fat little GFs?
