I was around the same time. In reflection, it was still fun going to the games with friends to watch the Beavs lose and get drunk. TOGO'S.........WHAT WAS THAT SANDWICH CALLED?..........DAH BOMB? THAT WAS MONEY. #23 was famous... long before Jordan... was the "gut bomb"... nothing can be left on the paper!!

When did Dad's weekend switch from basketball season to football season? Sometime before 2010, which is when I started going to OSU. They have now gotten rid of dad's and mom's weekends and made it "family weekend" because people without a father or mother were upset about having a specific dad's or mom's weekend.

My first game was the great comeback against Fresneck, and I thought "hey maybe these guys are better than advertised......", lived with that till 83 season, then came back for 86-87 for early Kragthorpe, then took my youngsters to many a 2/1 Bi-Mart special. but since I have lived in Corvallis from 81 on, count me as a long time and often long suffering, but remembering the gems.

I'll never forget the time I asked a girl in my dorm if her mom was coming down for mom's weekend and she told me her mom died a few years earlier. Kinda put things in perspective for me. That being said, I don't think she was upset that other people were spending time with their moms.

I was at OSU 1986-91. If you wanted to, and I did a few times, you could follow the action on the field by walking the student section stands to keep pace with the ball placement. Or, you could just walk around the stands throughout the game to look for people you knew. The east and west stands looked like two triangles, with most fans stacked at the 50 and steadily dwindling down to nothing once you got to the goal line.
The people in the end zones? I never understood them at all. Those were my years as well. You've nailed the experience! Early season was the best....warm air....half shirts......

I had a friend who lost her dad while we were at OSU, and I know Dad's weekend was tough for her after that, but she was still supportive of having it be Dad's weekend. It's just been a tradition since at least when my dad went to OSU, so it does suck to see it go away.

As a dad now with a boy at OSU, I was actually looking forward to Dad's Weekend. While I understand the concerns of those without parents, taking it away from the majority kind of bites. Dammit.

I was there from 87 - 91 as well. We had a football team? Did not know that. LOL! I think I attended one football game in all my time there. It was a week or so before the term began, so it couldn't have been much of a game. I don't know if we won or lost! LOL! But come basketball season, I went to every game I could. Loved those crowds and those games! Coming out of Gill yelling Ooooo Ssssss Uuuuuu as we crossed campus to the dorms. Good times.

I was there from 89-94, and I went to many (most?) of the football games. I went to more baseball games than basketball games, because I don't really GAF about basketball. SaveSave

Dad's and Mom's weekend were always about family not specific relationships. When I was in school uncles, brothers, aunts, sisters, friends of the family all filled roles on those weekends. The events were always inclusive ands never meant as anything but. This PC crap had to stop...
