From absolute disaster to a team that looks playoff bound so far. Just won in Dallas. Good young coach, a couple of good young players. It doesn't take forever to turn a situation around if you know what you are doing.

That is a big "if" in this case.

Where are the guys who said Goff sucked. Looks like a steal right about now.
But definitely worth asking, just how bad of a coach is Jeff Fisher?

Jeff Fisher is certainly looking horrible at this moment in time.

It doesn't take forever to turn a situation around if you know what you are doing. I was thinking the same thing. As a lifelong, long-suffering Rams fan, I had this great feeling the first time I read a profile on Sean McVay. Replacing a crusty, overrated coach who was stuck in his confusing ways and a horrible evaluator and developer of talent with a promising up and comer who was young, enthusiastic and had an innovative mind has infused my team with an amazing new energy. Very few of the offensive personnel are different (there are a couple of nice new pieces, but the lead talent looks completely different than they did under Fisher), but this offense is 10 times more fun to watch, and McVey has that team having fun and playing good football already. The parallels at OSU in terms of who we have and what we need are virtually identical to my depiction of the before and after Rams. I understand the financial obstacles that we face, but I desperately wish we could do something similar. The good news was that while The Rams kept Fisher longer than they should have, they still were able to get on track with the right hire after the ousted him. When we finally, mercifully pull the trigger and end this bad dream, Barnes and Company have got to get it right with the next hire.

I know a couple of Rams players, 1 present and 1 former, who said that Fisher was so stubborn and surly that the locker room was full of tension all of the time. He apparently has one of the foulest mouths in the game - even his mom was shocked when she heard him addressing his players on "Hard Knocks"! He picked favorites, was confusing in his direction, and as a defensive guy his offenses were archaic and dysfunctional. Even his couple of winning teams in Tennessee just rode Eddie George and Steve McNair's gifts and were very pedestrian for most of his stint there. He came to LA with such a big-time rep, but didn't live up to the hype and before he was canned last year became the losingest coach in NFL history (in terms of number of total losses). Man, he sounds like someone else that we know around these parts.

GA's "system" is all based on his mentor McBride at Utah that won 58% of his games in the WAC/MWC and never got higher than a Vegas Bowl. The following two years after McBride left Utah went 22-2.

The other thing to note when using NFL teams as examples: The NFL is the most "level playing field" sport in the history of sports.
The hard salary cap, the draft, revenue sharing, consolidated national TV contracts.
The NFL is nothing like the NCAA when it comes to competitive balance.
