Here is an excerpt from an article I read today - (sorry lost the source, will track it down on Thursday)... If nothing else, this reminds us of what unusually good luck the Beavs have had in the past few years as far as injuries go. ---------------------------
"As Notre Dame gets set for its official opening practice Monday, McGraw is concerned over how many players might not be ready to go.
“We are still dealing with so many injuries,” coach said. “I’m not sure how many players we’re going to have for practice … maybe seven.”
Besides All-American Brianna Turner already out for the season as she continues her rehabilitation from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, returning starter Westbeld is still recovering from April ankle surgery and backup senior guard Mychal Johnson from April shoulder surgery.
Further, junior forward Jessica Shepard has “some nagging injuries,” according to the coach, as she continues to await word on whether a hardship waiver request will be granted by the NCAA.
If it’s granted, Shepard, an All-Big Ten player at Nebraska, will be eligible this season. Otherwise, she must wait until next season.
McGraw said Johnson should be ready before the Nov. 11 opener, but expressed doubt regarding Westbeld......
Westbeld averaged 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds — tied for second on the team behind Turner’s 7.1 — in 23.7 minutes per game last season, making 27 starts for the 33-4 Irish."
[In a nutshell, this means that when ND takes the floor in Gill on Nov. 19th they may very well field a lineup missing 3 projected starters.]

Correction. Two starters, and one girl that has absolutely no business getting a waiver for her transfer. By this standard, we're short one starter while we await Destiny's waiver.
Oh, wait. She didn't apply for a waiver because she knows the rules and doesn't think she's above them.

If the ncaa were to grant ND and Shepard the hardship waiver they would be opening themselves up to a barrage of requests especially after all of the undergrad transfers this year. I read the rules and couldn't find a justification to grant it, but I could be wrong. It has been close to a month since the filing of the request, I would hope that the decision has been made by now. Official practices start soon, I think OSU will be able to start next week.

I also noticed some (what I believe is new) view-blocking materials added to both the practice center windows and the fencing around the football practice field.......was wondering if we are trying to be a little less transparent with our practices...... Go Beavers!

It's really scary that we are just a couple injuries away from their situation.
11 on roster
Turner out
Westbeld doubtful
Johnson hopeful but off surgery so not sure how ready
Shephard should not be eligible, this case is a perfect example of why coaches support the wait a year rule. From what I've read on Nebraska press and boards, she was unable to get along with her teammates which is one specific issue of concern and the potential that Notre Dame could be poaching should also be considered.
Want to talk about a short bench, that leaves 8 with an off chance of 9. 10 is best case for them 7 would be the worst.
Ironically part of the reason ND is in this situation is because they had two players transfer out.

Jessica Shepherd, star transfer from Nebraska, has still (as of October 9th) has not received word from NCAA as to whether her request of "hardship waiver" has been approved. Hence, ND has no clue if she will play this season. This is downright weird. The NCAA is either thumpingly ignorant in handling their day-to-day business transactions, or ND, in arrogant hurriedness, didn't submit their paperwork properly. Both are possible.
At any rate, the WBB fans at Notre Dame are getting progressively more pissed and I don't blame them.... Their request should be denied - but it should have been vetoed with a hammer weeks ago... Maybe the NCAA is intentionally making the Domers do penance, dangle in the wind, sweat it out, as payment for making such a preposterously asinine request in the first place.

I just hope that the ncaa isn't stalling a positive response to make near impossible for anyone else to apply. It is really strange that there had been no news. Shepard did not leave Nebraska under good terms with either team mates, coaches or their fans. She was out of shape and was not a team player on or off the court.
The delay is unacceptable though, especially since this scenario is given as an example of a case that will be denied.

According to NDnation the ncaa has come back to nd with some additional questions, they responded and are expecting an answer to their request in a week. Sounds familiar, they were originally expecting an answer before mid September.
There are cases where the request for additional information ended in a player getting the waiver as well as being denied. So nothing can be read into it.

Same player. Different spelling of first name. Mychal Johnson has indeed been pronounced out for the '17-'18 due to the knee injury reported above by 411500. Johnson started three games last season and averaged 2.0 points per game during 2016-2017. Notre Dame's top guard, Arike Ogunbowale, is back as a junior. She averaged 15.9 points per game and shot 45.4% from beyond the arc as a sophomore last season. Ogunbowale will be as good of a guard as OSU will face in '17-'18, including UCLA's Jordin Canada and Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu. Those three all played together on the USA U-23 team earlier this summer. www.und.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/mychal_johnson_908421.htmlwsbt.com/sports/content/ndwb-mychal-johnson-to-miss-entire-season

With Johnson out, she had previously been listed as hopeful. Turner is out. Westbeld had been listed as doubtful. Shepard is still unknown.
Start with 11. Drop Turner and Johnson and the most players they can play is 9. 7 or 8 is more likely. They will be vulnerable to anyone driving the basket, can't afford foul trouble.
