I am glad this "first day of school" video is turning into a tradition:
Definitely going to be a different team this year from last, but change can be good....
Go Beavers!

Syd looks different this year. She is such a character - how can you not just love her? But I swear she was taller last year. Maybe it's just because she is standing next to Marie in every shot.

Too bad "Syd" (number 24) isn't able to play this year, but NEXT year number 24 will be better than she EVER was. Next year should be a blast. Hoping the team is able to surprise this year, too, but lots of unknowns. Every game will be a treat.

Hoping the team is able to surprise this year, too, but lots of unknowns. Every game will be a treat. Big shoes to fill. Destiny Slocum fills those shoes handily. Sydney may have been a better shooter, and at 6 feet tall was able to get off some shots that Destiny would get blocked. However, Destiny's quickness, ball handling, and passing are far superior to Sydney's. Destiny's passes are rockets due to her arm strength. She can create her own shot better than Sydney because of her quick acceleration. Where Sydney would get tied up in circles trying to get away from a harassing defensive player, Destiny will definitely NOT have that problem. You don't score 23 points against UCONN unless you're an elite player. Destiny will be the best player ever to play for OSU WBB, guaranteed. And when she's on the floor with 6'7" and 6'9" to pass to, watch out.

You're setting some very high expectations against which anything short of "best OSU player ever" will be seen as not meeting expectations. I'm probably older than you and have seen more "sure things" not panning out for any number of unforeseen reasons. But I admire your enthusiasm.

I wouldn't make that claim if she came here out of high school, but she proved herself at Maryland. She was named national freshman player of the year. No OSU player has ever done that, so there's good reason to expect my "guarantee" to pan out. She's special.

It's obvious she's special just for the intangibles. Even from the bench she's going to make this team better.

I will expect multiple pac-12 player of the year awards to surpass Jamie Weisner (1) and Tanja Kostic (2) and a >29.6 ppg scoring average at least one season to surpass Carol Menken and leading her team into the NCAA championship game to surpass the 2015-16 group. That's what "Best OSU BB player ever" means (not merely being a better point guard than Sydney Wiese). She's got 3 seasons to get it done. It's a tall order by any calculation.

Okay, I'll concede "best player ever" is probably not going to happen given that Kostic and Menken are in the mix. Though that WAS a long time ago. She'll be the best GUARD ever at OSU. She'll never lead the league in rebounds....

It will be 3 1/2 years before we know Destiny's place in Beaver history, however her potential is amazing. CR has said that he gauges success not by wins but by his players playing to the best of their abilities. I'm excited to see how he is able to coach up all the players on the current roster. Regardless, Sydney will always be remembered for her role in the resurgence of Beaver basketball. Same with Ali, Jamie, and Ruth. Without their foresight and belief in CR and his system we wouldn't be where we are. He repaid them by making each one the best they could be.

Another video that I have really enjoyed is this year's team working out: I see the best Junior center anyone could recruit, I see a very highly ranked freshman forward, an All-Pac-12 center/forward, some proven guards ready to take the next step, and some unproven but athletically upgraded replacement guards/forwards biding their time to shine.....and that is on this season's team! (so no Destiny Slocum, Andrea Aquino, Patricia Morris, Jasmine Simmons, or Katie Mayhue). We might be surprised even this season, but agree every game will be a treat. And thanks to the dreary football season, we can start pondering it now :-). Go Beavers!
