A question for the X and O guys

Not an X and O guy, but I don't think it matters how we line up as long as we run the ball. I'd love to see the first three plays be runs even if we go three and out, then run it again the next drive. Make them work at least a little bit. I feel like we bail teams out a little bit when we don't make the big guys have to tackle early in the game. Maybe it takes their legs out just a little and opens up some holes or passing lanes for you in the second half.

One could argue that slowing down the offense and using long sustained drives is exactly what Oregon State needs to do. The last thing we should be trying to do is get into boat races with teams. We accept that WSU can and will score when they get the ball. The key is matching scores, keeping it reasonable, and being close going into the 4th quarter. 

However, you are not going to do that being one dimensional. We should have an emphasis on power running and a heavy line is a way to do that, but there will likely be no avoiding needing to pass.

We need to run as much as possible, but we cannot honestly expect that this OL even with extra TEs, has it in them to smash mouth anybody. 

Quite simply, IMO you need to actually stop WSU on couple drives at least and then outscore them from there. Their offense is predicated upon outscoring the opponent. They have just been playing better defense overall than I believe most teams (let alone what I think) thought they would! A simply "ground it out" offense will usually not work against this type of team....especially for us!

Unfortunately, no. Our O-line is terrible. They get no push. Our D is pathetic. That means we have to get into a shoot out to have any chance and most of that chance is hoping the other team has a day that what they do best is step on their johnson.

In trying not to be too sarcastic or flippant, and certainly not directed at you, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" 😁

Without getting into detailed x's and o's (that our coaches wouldn't understand in case they're reading) there are are several simple reasons... In no particular order:
- "Jimmies and Joe's"... we have none to execute this. OL as mentioned is terrible and our TEs are not physical and nothing but perimeter type blockers. Nall is not a workhorse in that he's missed considerable time every season, including the Minnie game and prob not going to be able to do it alone.
- coaches... we don't have any in terms of "teachers" with the ability to teach execution let alone running multiple schemes within whatever the hell their system is supposed to be.
- coaches... it would take game planning and then focus and adaptability to the game plan. We don't seem to have a system let alone focus and adapting on the fly
- HC... taking "responsibility" means doing the same basic things/"process" that have not worked in a 7-20 start, with no wins vs a winning team nor on the road. Yet tweak innumerable "pieces" (players, coaching responsibilities, schemes) within the process thinking they are the issue.

So... is a W today possible? Yep. It's sports, s%#te happens Probable? Not unless WSU falls completely flat and hands OSU points. But, I'll guarantee our staff ain't out coaching anyone.

1st downs keeps the other team of the field. Inept offense on the ground or thru the air doesn't do it.
