Hour One was pretty boring. Lots of talk about Parker growing up in Los Angeles and crying when George Allen was fired. Did tell a story about 38 of the 40 Rams going on TV and saying they'd never play for the organization again if Allen wasn't brought back. Said he watched it in the appliance section of Sears, which is a good little story. I remember watching the news that Princess Diana had been killed in a Fred Meyer.
A caller floated the idea that all the giant killer reunions and men of roses games and men of iron jerseys were actually detrimental to the current team because it just reminded fans and players how good things used to be and how crappy the current edition is. I saw what he was getting at, but I guess the alternative is not honoring the past at all, or only during good seasons, which seems kind of ridiculous. Plus, this isn't Kindergarten where you gotta give everyone a Valentine so nobody feels bad.
They then had a conversation about people thinking Urban Meyer had let the game pass him by and that's why they got waxed by Clemson last year and Oklahoma this year. (Parker referenced he heard this conversation on Romey, so anyone playing the drinking game....Drink!) A caller suggested that moreso than having a superior scheme, successful coaches like Saban, Meyer, etc. just pay great attention to detail and don't have to reinvent the wheel to get their players to be successful. Basically perfect practice makes perfect play. At this point Warren bashed Riley's clock management skills (drink).
Hour Two started with Warren mistakenly calling the media room the "Jack and Ginny Warden Media Room." (Drink)
Parker mentioned he was driving to Pullman with his wife, going the long way through central Oregon to do a little sightseeing before making their way up to the Palouse. A caller comes on to let Parker know he could just take 14 through the Gorge on the Washington side to save time, completely missing the point of spending some time with his wife. The caller then went on to apologize for hanging up on Warren three weeks ago because Dave from Tumwater (heretofore called DFT) talked so long he had to hang up while on hold following the CSU game.
DFT was up next and was clearly miffed the previous caller thought he talked too long. DFT's topic of the day was that players are put in bad spots by reporters after games by having to answer questions about what the reason is for their poor play, which leads to answers like Crawford and Villamin have given. I tend to agree with him on this one. He also said Leach gives dismissive answers to sideline reporters at halftime for the same reason. DFT mentioned Mike Parker's name a few times during his monologue, and it ate Warren up so much he had to cut DFT off to let him know Mike left the studio for a few minutes and he was just talking to him at this point. DFT finished by saying Wazzu is a lot like OSU program wise, and that if they can have success there, we can have success here.
A guy named Doug then called in to ask if anyone knew why he saw a big Beaver branded luxury bus heading south on 99 towards Eugene a few hours before every home game. Nobody knew.
There was a good interview with Cory Hall where he talked about drawing inspiration from the Seahawks coaching staff and always trying to keep positive energy flowing in practice and during games. He talked about having an alter ego on the field and how he always tells his guys that "Xavier Crawford isn't good enough....we need X on the field. Told a story about Brian Dawkins having a separate locker for his alter ego - Wolverine.
The final segment started with warren's cell phone going off. (Drink) Warren immediately deflects by saying Parker's phone went off yesterday, but it was a very pleasant tone.
Then there was an interview with Kevin Clune. Talked about having GA in the defensive room and how it is great to have a head coach that is involved and willing to offer suggestions and bounce ideas off of. Said that as a D.C., they have ten or twelve stats they look at as things that are importance....mentioned turnovers and sudden changes, saying they need to find a way to not give up points after a turnover. Then talked about going on the road and how he actually gets more sleep away from home than he does when he's in town. Parker asked about Wazzu's offense and how you get pressure on them when they get it out so quick. Gave a coach speak answer about everyone working together: backs engaging coverage early and holding it long enough to allow front seven to get home etc etc.
They then discussed last year's game and how they threw a lot of different looks at Falk that frustrated him, and that if it weren't for a dropped interception here or a blown coverage there in the second half they would've had them. Mentioned as a coach he remembers the negatives more than the positives.
That was pretty much it. Typical show: Good audio from practice, decent calls, Parker talking about life in LA in the late sixties, and Warren leaving his cell phone on. Good stuff.
