Mike does get real monotone and eeyore like during games that go against the beavs. Particularly in baseball, where a pop-up to second in the 4th inning of a 2-0 sounds like a dagger through his heart.
I think he's a phenomenal baseball announcer, a pretty good football guy (I don't listen much other than to hear highlights on the drive home during the postgame show), an average basketball guy (the action is too quick for his storytelling to come through) and a below average radio show host, though that could just be a product of him being stretched a little too thin and not getting proper time to prepare. Also, working with Jon Warren would not bring out my best either.
Sort of off topic, but my favorite announcing crew right now is the TV guys for the Washington Nationals. I've only heard them a couple times, but they are hilarious and make the game super enjoyable to listen to. They're definitely not for purists and people who don't enjoy off-topic broadcasting, but they went into a whole thing on dogs during a "bark in the park" game where they were describing dogs as if they were dog show announcers, intentionally calling dogs by the wrong breed and stuff. I loved it. If you have mlb.tv or next time you get a free preview of it, I highly recommend those dudes.

just imagine what he hears when he is trying to chill out in some late night diner. I would drink myself silly and eat napkins and be muttering to myself. Not that he does that. Any more.

Wow. I've always felt making fun of someone's battles with substance abuse - a challenge faced by millions in this country (probably some on this board) on a daily basis - to be in very poor taste. Others may disagree.

Not needed for me. I listen via the TuneIn app every day. Enjoy the show and its folksy nature. Not nearly as good when Mike Parker is on the road.

Sorry, it's not being "holier than thou" to think that making fun of another's former substance abuse problems is in extremely poor taste. Did you think Trump's making fun of a disabled person was funny too?

Others may disagree. I had the privilege to talk with MP briefly one-on-one not long after the napkin incident. I told him I was a beaver through and through, and that I was in complete support of him as the face of the university, as it were, when it came to sports announcing. He was genuinely questioning whether that was true or not for beaver nation at the time - I assured him I was not alone, and I wished him the best. Since then, I ran into Wayne Tinkle at PDX with his daughter on their way to the final four earlier this year, and he brought up the MP situation himself. Said when he came to OSU, MP brought it up to him as if he had already heard about it - he had not. He said that MP since that incident has stopped drinking, turned his life around, and has been clean since. Great story of redemption, and support for one or our own when he needed it. The jackasses that filmed him at the restaurant? They may have ultimately done him a favor, but I would like to take one or both of their phones and stuff it so far up their a@@ that they dial Guam when they cough. Can't wait when Karma catches up with them and something embarrassing is posted on the internet that they have done, for all the world to see.

Great story of redemption.

Make no mistake, MP isn't the big time. -------------------------- Having listened to many, many other pro or college announcers via Sirius radio over the years, I'd respectfully disagree. MP is far better than at least half of the clowns doing MLB these days. I definitely didn't mean that as a put down of MP. Several years ago, a friend and I stopped to get something to eat after a Beaver hoops game. I happened to look up and notice Mike coming in, and struck up a conversation with him as he was on his way out with dinner for the family. 20 minutes later - after sharing our appreciation for his work and swapping stories with him, he reluctantly he'd probably better get home with his cold food. As I said, the guy is genuine and classy, and I admire him for the way that he has faced personal demons with grace. When I said that he wasn't "big time", I only was thinking of the difference between his role in a great little college town as compared to a national media lightning rod. I personally like the homespun lack of pretentiousness of the JBS. I don't even mind Jon's quirky angle. I've called into the show a few times, and talking to those guys feels like sitting around the table discussing life with family and friends. Now, Dave in Tumwater? That dude can wear on your last nerve at times. However, Mike and Jon are very patient with him, and I guess it's nice for them to know that they can count on at least 10 minutes of caller air time each show because of him. I will say that he loves the Beavs and can be entertaining in small doses!
