Also, Pierce is not a threat to break kick returns. Fine as a running back but not fast enough to bust through on returns. Beavs are missing Victor Bolden and there doesnt seem to be any players with the speed to replace him. DA mentioned this on social media during the CSU game, no vertical threats. Villamin and Hodgins are good intermediate targets but don't outrun any body. Serious recruiting deficit in speed. If these coaches want to make their 60-40 pass run offense work they better get some downfield threats. Being tall is certainly impressive. Just like a statue.

Bradford is a burner and Collins has legit 11 second 100m speed. Both those guys stretch the field out of the slot, but Collins has been hurt and Bradford is still very green. This team is ultimately very green. Villamin and Hodgins have the potential to be devastating if we have them win more one-on-one matchups - jump balls and completions to the edge of the field to spread things out and give Nall and Co some room to run. Jake has to get the ball out quicker to make it happen. It's weird to see how close we are to having a legitimate product and then see it fall flat for poor execution of an even poorer game plan.

The plays that do get executed show actual talent on the field. Villamin has always been capable of winning battles and Hodgins is very similar. But Villamin has never been aggressive enough to make play after play. He doesn't seem to want the ball. Hope Hodgins is more of a killer. The other weird thing is the lack of swing passes or screen passes or outlet passes to Nall and Pierce. Luton needs an easy secondary read instead of chucking it out of bounds when his primary is covered. Basic stuff this coaching staff seems to be ignorant to. Take what they give you? What's that?

Villamin is a Mike Williams. He's a beast but needs a partner across from him to light the fire - he isn't The Guy but he can be part of a killer Pick-Your-Poison kind of duo.
Hodgins.. Hodgins is The Guy.

Seems like (at least I hope) Collins running slant patterns over the middle could open things up.

He had a fine kickoff return last week to midfield. Just wish they'd also use him to field punts! I agree with your later comment about needing to run more screen options. The deep threat doesn't seem to be there yet, but I wonder if that is because of accuracy issues. Luton seems to be throwing high or under-throwing targets that are beyond 15 yards. Maybe they just need more time to work on the timing and patterns.
