How have we gone from fans storming the field at Reser, to this complete and total train wreck? I thought all the talking heads said we had a program in Corvallis that was on the rise, and one in Eugene that was going down. Pre-season prognosticators said we would win six games. I was looking forward to going to the Landfill for the CW this year, and seeing us kick the ducks ass. Now we know whose ass is going to be kicked, and it sure isn't theirs. I am utterly without hope for the rest of this season. And how do we get out of this tailspin before we hit the ground?

We'll beat the ducks. We have to and besides, after the CSU game I made that my only expectation for the entire season. Win the Civil War. I already had a nice surprise with the PSU win : ) It's going to be alright. Almost every program goes through rough spells, historically speaking ours just seem last a lot longer LOL. I"m already turning the corner. My attitude has gone from one of dissapointment and the verge of anger to reminiscing about how many good times I had with friends back in the days of 2 win seasons. The wins were so unexpected they called for major celebration and party. In the spirit of doing this right, until our next winning season, let's just all call it Parker Stadium again. |

Right there with you Dave except I got season tickets. Caught me by surprise.
Reminds me of last basketball season.
I thought we had turned the corner after the CW win and were going to a bowl game in 2017. Man am I a dreamer. Something changed with the team and it's not been pretty.

I watched the first half of the duck game on TV, listened to the second half driving up from Eugene. I left Reser just before at halftime, soaked from the rain, cold in my t-shirt and shorts, and disgusted by what I had seen. I have NEVER left a OSU game that early, but I had had enough. I turned the radio off as the second half debacle played out. Glad I was not foolish to risk my health over a pointless game. |

Nebraska made adjustments at half and shut the ducks out the final two quarters. If Nebraska's QB was more accurate they would have won by two tds even after being down 42-14. None of that is relevant to why we'll win the CW however. |

While winning the civil war is always a highlight maybe it wasn't that big a thing in the whole scheme of things.Both AZ and the ducks were in complete meltdown at the end of last year,

He lost his teams respect because immediately after winning a civil war and another pac-12 game with in an all time great performance, CGA went shopping for 3M's replacement, and held a complete farce of a competition, then named him the starter. That is how you lose a team. Then he makes it worse by throwing his own players under the bus in news conferences. We don't have a utter devoid of talent, we have a team that doesn't give a s%#t because they hate their coach. it is all over their body language, it is all over their comments, the stink of a broken team is all over this program. it doesn't help that our schemes are garbage and our coaches can't coach their way out of a paper bag. but heart and energy can make up for some deficiencies. I watched the Oregon Nebraska game, and I watched our game. I was honest to god jealous that they all those teams, Oregon, Nebraska and Minnesota have coaches the players rally around and love. Taggart is high energy on the field. he isn't yelling and screaming and angry... he is just intense. players love that. Riley is calm, but always coaching, always talking to players and he gets fired up when he needs to. and PJ Fleck is the poster child for player's coach. We have a broken grumpy coach that is blaming all his players for his boneheaded mistakes. |

What happened since the Civil War? Here's my take: CGA lost this team because he has the coaching finesse of a bull in a china shop. There's no minor adjustment with this guy, it's either stay the course no matter what, or throw everything out and start over, again and again.
After the Civil War, this team had finally built an identity under its coach's leadership. We were a bruising, run-heavy team with two really good (and young!) horses that could legitimately take this team places. Our passing game definitely needed improvement, but we had an adequate QB that had shown more development than anybody on the roster, actually showed signs of the trifecta of beating teams with his "arm, legs, and mind", and everybody was eager to see what he could do if he were actually given full reins of this team at the start of fall camp and through the season.
I actually like our assistant hires over the offseason. I like the idea of a "running game coordinator" and "passing game coordinator". Our passing game and routes/formations definitely look more "pro-like" and legitimate. That's all good. What a good head coach should do is find a way to create these improvements and interleave them into the already-existing hard-nosed, smash-mouth identity that had been chiseled into this team for the last two years. Sadly, Gary Andersen is not a good coach. Instead he insists on taking these improvements and going full-throttle to a pass-heavy offense, where passing on first down is an absolute requirement at least a few times per drive, and discarding the QB who finally helped make this team go, in favor of somebody who can chuck the ball around while the conference's most explosive runner sits on his thumb. And this despite even more great running backs falling into our lap. As if the universe is saying that we are destined to be a great running team, to which our coach responds by giving the universe the finger...
Our coach is just a stubborn ass, that's the bottom line. And here we are...

Remember when Craig Robinson came in, completely slowed down the tempo, ground games to a halt, used a gimmicky D and won 50% of his games and made us all believe OSU could be decent at basketball again? Remember how rather than realize he had a a system that worked, and then went and completely recruited against that system and tried to run an up tempo style that saw us go from giving up 62.2 points per game in his second season (the fewest ppg an OSU team had allowed since 1985) to givng up 75.6 ppg in his final season?
I feel like that's what's happening with Gary Andersen. Our rushing attempts the final four games of last season: 22/34/46/51. We were starting to find an identity. Not coincidentally, our record in games where we rush for 200 yards under Gary Andersen is 6-3. We are 1-17 when we don't. You guys aren't going to believe this, but we've only won one game under CGA when we've attempted more than 25 passes, and it was against IDAHO STATE.
So what do we do this year? We come out and throw the god damn ball 47 times week one.
Why? Why do we do this to ourselves? Did we fool ourselves into thinking we needed to be a fast paced, up tempo offense to be competitive? How is that the case when we've proven that (at least under Gary Andersen) we are at our most successful when we take the air out of the football (apologies to Tom Brady) and run run run run run. Furthermore, we just got our ass handed to us by a team that just ran the ball 58 times against us. If you take out the last 64 yard run by Demry Croft, Minnesota averaged 3.3 yards per carry and still would've put up 41 points.
