It's reality... not "wonderland". It's not whining. It's actually holding a highly paid group of employees to a standard we should all hold ourselves to as parents and human beings. Complaining comes with the territory in every aspect of life. And, your own words fall completely hollow as here you are complaining... guess you fully expect it to make no difference... so why post??? I assume then that you've never complained or that when you do it does make a difference. It has ZERO to do with perfection and expecting perfection. You've completely missed the boat as a poster on here if you think any "nabob" has ever mentioned or expected perfection. As of now, do you think the performance on the field or the attitude of the fan base is more a culprit in attracting players??? Again... results draw players, not fans. Dad's grandparents, my neighbor, who knows who else. But, I'll guarantee you the empty seats reflect performance far more than fan displeasure and negativity, and it's ludicrous to think otherwise. Beaver fans are much much more patient and positive that "most" other fans bases... and it is not even close in many instances. As for "change"... empty seats WILL make a difference and is basically 'complaining' in a financial format. Complaining here is mostly "venting" cuz we care about our university. Ever vented because you care... ya, thought so! Bottom line, no one forces you to log on, nor read any post, nor all the way through. If you want everyone on the same page this isn't the place for you. "If everyone is thinking the same, then a lot of people aren't thinking" Empty seats aren't constantly chirping "xxx sucks!" or "effing yyy!" in your ear the entire game. I have no issue in people voting with their wallets. It's the constant (and totally redundant) "we suck!" or "Fire the coach" posts that are getting old. The old Pure Orange site was nicknamed "Pure Hate" based on all the negativity. This summarizes it pretty well:

The old Pure Orange site was nicknamed "Pure Hate" based on all the negativity. This summarizes it pretty well: Truer words have seldom been spoken. One big difference though: In "The Waterboy", that guy was lamenting going backwards 12 months. Right now, a lot of folks are concerned about going backwards 20 YEARS! This is not the secret to World peace or a cure for cancer important, but I don't see how any self-respecting fan of all things OSU can look realistically at how our football program has been trending and not have a pit in his/her stomach just thinking back to those laughingstock years. Since none of us has the power to impact necessary change individually, this site is one place where we can vent with other fans who care as much as we do. If a fan is a casual one, and they don't mind being mocked in the college football world, I don't think he/she would come on a board like this. However, when you do care, it's hard to feel good about paying $2.4 million/year + perks and a few million more for assistants to get this result. I will never say that we have a "right" to a bowl each year or championships of any type, but I will say that we have a right to expect improvement and a stable, competitive product. I don't care how many 4 star athletes we recruit, I just want to see the ones who come here get better, become unified and play with a clear identity. I'd bet that if you took the microphone out of their faces and asked our players who they are as a team and what their identity is on the field, many would have to say that they're not really sure. They deserve better!

I see a very vocal minority muttering the words "utter failure".... I see the nattering nabobs of negativity shouting down anyone who doesn't share their doom and gloom outlook.... The team doesn't appear to have quit and neither have I. Congratulations on your optimism. As a "nattering nabob of negativity" I was hoping you could tell me what sort of positives you see on the field that make you think that we're on the right track. Because giving up 45 points a game and 520 yards on defense while simultaneously turning the ball over 3.5 times a game do not have me very optimistic. Perhaps from now on we should refer to anyone who is critical of the program as 3N.

First, the posters you "hear" are not the only fans who feel negatively about the program... unless those of on here own all the empty seats!? And, 7-19, over 520yds/game given up in year 3, the 3rd offensive philosophy is FAILURE at this point in time. Fully supportive of GA or totally against... it's failure, if you don't agree I'd say you are the one with low expectations for our athletic programs and the "negative outlook". I know several people who have stopped attending games due to all the negativity coming from the fan base. DA's grandparents stopped coming to games because they were tired of hearing the "fans" foul mouthed description of his performance. The term you used was "utter failure" and that is not an accurate picture of what is going on. If you are expecting kids to be perfect on every play then prepare to be disappointed. No program is perfect on every play. All of the whining and complaining isn't going to make a difference. It won't force a change to a new defensive scheme, it won't usher in a 4th offensive philosophy, and it won't make the game day experience any better. Why would anyone want to come coach or play for a team whose fans don't have their backs? Um, I'm going to call triple BS on significant numbers of people stop attending the games because of the negativity. Hogwash. Aside from the players grandparents or whatever.

Dude, that's my point. You said "Why would anyone want to come coach or play for a team whose fans don't have their backs?" The answer is winning games and having nice stuff. If you're a coach, it's about a paycheck. You're kidding yourself if you think every fan base doesn't get a little pitchforky when things go poorly. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. I guarantee Alabama fans were pissed off and complaining about everything in the Mike Shula era. I refuse to believe that Oregon State's fans are the reason the football team is bad. That defies logic to me, and places the blame as far away from the source of the actual problem as you can. It's like hearing that the neighbor is cheating on his wife and saying "well if that dog of theirs wasn't barking all the time, he'd want to spend more time at home."

I couldn't get past the first sentence. Only the 3rd Big 10 team in 45 years? Hard to believe, but true. Just look at the Minnesota series - this is our 4th meeting, but the first one in Corvallis.

I couldn't get past the first sentence. Only the 3rd Big 10 team in 45 years? WestIllinois 1-0. 12-10 win in Champaign in 1965. Dee Andros' first game as coach of Oregon State. Iowa 5-7. All games occurred between 1956-1972. Iowa-Oregon State was something of a rivalry. Oregon State played Iowa more often than California or UCLA in the same period. 8 of the 12 games were played in Iowa. 2 were played in Portland. 1 was played in Corvallis. The other match-up was the 1957 Rose Bowl. Oregon State was 3-5 in Iowa, 1-1 in Portland, 1-0 in Corvallis, and 0-1 in Pasadena. From 1965-1972, Iowa and Oregon State played every year, the Beavers going 5-3. Minnesota 1-3. All games in Minneapolis. Nebraska 2-9. 8 in Nebraska (1-7) and 3 in Portland (1-2). Both wins were the two parts of a home-and-home in 1947-1948. Five games occurred before that time. Two games were in the fifties. The last two were both in Lincoln in 1989-1990. Northwestern 1-3. Oregon State won the first in 1957 in Evanston. The other three contests were a 2 (in Evanston)-for-1 (in Corvallis) in 1964-1966. The closest game was the first, a 7-3 loss that led to Prothro starting benching Crowston and Queen and starting Brothers against Colorado. Oregon State would go 8-1 the rest of the regular season to clinch the Rose Bowl berth. Purdue 1-0. 1967 Giant Killers 22-14 over #2 Purdue in Indiana. No games before or since. Wisconsin 1-2. Oregon State and Wisconsin played a home-and-home in 2011-2012. The other game was in Madison in 1961. 0-2 in Madison and 1-0 in Corvallis. East Indiana 2-1. A road trip victory in 1960 and then a split of the 1963-1964 home-and-home (each side winning at home). Maryland 1-0. Oregon State 21-Maryland 14 in San Francisco. Michigan 0-5. Four games in Ann Arbor and one in Pasadena. The closest game was the first in 1959. Michigan State 2-6-1. 7 in East Lansing, 1 in Portland, and 1 in Corvallis. The first was famous, a 20-0 win over Michigan State in East Lansing. Michigan State had defeated Michigan 24-0 the week before. Grantland Rice of the New York Tribune wrote "The Pacific Slump," a poem about Oregon State's victory. The second game was a 7-7 tie in 1942, the last game the Beavers would play until 1945, because of World War II. Michigan State and Oregon State entered into a six-game series from 1948-1953 with three in East Lansing, two in Portland, and one in Corvallis. The Beavers (21-point dogs) would win the first in Portland in 1949, 25-20, overcoming a 13-0 second quarter deficit. Stan McGuire won lineman of the week for his play but died in a car crash in the off-season. The team would not really recover under Coach LeVerne "Kip" Taylor, dropping the next four in the series (albeit Oregon State would only lose by six in 1951 and three in 1952). The final game in the series was a game in East Lansing in 1971. Ohio State 0-2. Oregon State has made two trips to the Shoe and lost both in 1974 and 1984. The Beavers blew a 14-3 second-half lead to lose 22-14 to #6 and Big Ten Champion Ohio State in 1984. Penn State 0-1. Lions 45-Beavers 14 in 2008. Rutgers 0-0. The two teams have never met. 17-40-1 (.302) against Big Ten teams.
