Full story here. Former Oregon State women's basketball player Sydney Wiese has been invited to join the 2017 USA Basketball Women's National Team Training Camp. Thirty athletes were invited to the camp, which will be held from Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in Santa Barbara, Calif. The camp will be utilized to help identify and prepare athletes for future USA National Team events, including the 2018 USA World Cup Team, and will mark the USA's first training camp under Staley's tenure as head coach.

LA Sparks moved into the wnba finals. Syd loses her chance to make Team USA. It really sucks since she is not getting any actual playing time with LA.

LA Sparks moved into the wnba finals. Syd loses her chance to make Team USA. It really sucks since she is not getting any actual playing time with LA. The professional ranks are a weird animal...... Sydney scored 28 points (including a 22 points in 27 minute outburst) in her first 2 WNBA games (prior to some Sparks starters reporting back from overseas). In the next 26 games, she scored a total of 36 points (never hitting double figures again) in mostly single-digit minutes played games. It appears she was a DNP-CD in her first Finals game, and saw 1 minute in a playoff game thus far. I don't watch WNBA enough to know if she is being "brought along slowly". It is truly a bummer that a result of all of this is her missing her opportunity with Team USA this year......though who knows what her prognosis to make that team would be? At least Sydney has found the most success in the WNBA amongst her, Jamie, and Ruth, though I think Ruth has leverage hoops to have all sorts of interesting experiences and see the world. I guess I will continue to watch current Beavers and just check stats on the pro alums......saves time as well. Go Beavers!

In the games I've watched (other than her double-digit game), she doesn't get the ball passed to her much when she is open. Instead, one of the superstars goes one-on-one. It seems that, if she is to fit in with this team, she needs to be able to create her own shot.

She is only getting a minute or two to play and those are inconsequential minutes at the end of games when the outcome has already been decided. I've seen games where LA is stone cold shooting and the coach still won't give Syd the call, why draft a shooter and not use her?

Fans of Syd, while its totally understandable we all want her on the floor and showing more of what she has to offer, she is the 'baby' of the team and needs to bide her time and her opportunities will come. She's off to Australia soon and i am sure she'll not only start but star there and come back bigger and stronger which will only add to her status. But as in most pro sports the new kid on the block is also a threat so you should expect it to some extent.
