between Tres Tinkle and Stevie Thompson and Drew Eubanks there should be some wins this year. Still think lack of a decent ball handler makes this squad suspect. Jacquori is already a decent point guard, and it sounds like Ethan Thompson has PG skills. Between the 2 of them, I think the PG spot will be fine. JM averaged 3.3 APG last year, but he was just a freshman and was dog tired because of the minutes he was having to put in. He'll do much better this year. I am talking about having a quarterback on the floor. You are either that kind of player or you are not. Jacquori is not. Ethan? Who knows at this point. But wow he is built like a 2 guard not a pg. A tank.

A tank. There is a beg difference between "decent ballhandler" that you mentioned in first post and a quarterback on the floor. I'd agree Jacquori might never be a "pure" QB on the floor, but I think we'll see some development in that area this year. I think he has the potential for the biggest step forward this year with Tres being back healthy (hopefully he can stay that way). Team should be able to run a bit more and a lot of the time the offense runs through Tres. Without him last year things often went stagnant and, yes, Jacquori not being a QB on the floor played into that some. As to the nonconference schedule, it is about what I expect from Oregon St. It certainly won't help them RPI-wise, but hopefully some early season wins will help with team development and get the wins needed to ensure at least an NIT bid. I think they have a chance at the NCAA tourney, but I'd really be disappointed if they don't at least make the NIT.

Here's a quote: “It was great to see that Ethan was really good, especially early on, like he’d been here for two or three years,” coach Tinkle said, adding that the guard may have tired as the week went on. “He’s making plays at the rim, great ballhandler. We know last year we didn’t have great depth at the point guard position. He’s certainly bringing that.”
