Official website release7 games in Gill, 1 in Portland, a tournament in Orlando, and 1 true road game at Kent State Pretty underwhelming opponents: Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State. I am sure these games can't help our RPI. Hopefully we win all the games we should win.

Don't think it is bad schedule
Wyoming wont be easy at home Kent State is a good team despite their showing at Gill last year Also get St Johns then Missouri if they win that. Missouri should be a Top 25 team with the Porter brothers who were going to UW
I see 9-3 as a worst case scenario but 10-2, 11-1 are certainly possible

In Orlando, the 3rd game could be West Virginia which ended #11 in the country. They beat #6 Virginia, #1 Baylor, #2 Kansas, #24 Iowa State, #5 Notre Dame. They lost to #3 Kansas 84-80 in OT and #1 Gonzaga 61-58 in the Sweet 16. Hardly a pushover, should we meet them. They are ranked #9 in the Super-Early poll: Super Early 2017 Rankings

Get the wins, get back to a winning season, get the bad taste of last season out of our mouths. Win counts help get to the NIT, and strong Pac-12 finishers (should we be so lucky) can make it to the Big Dance based on SoS in-conference....
Seems like a good approach.
Go Beavers!

I like the schedule. Theres not a ton of cupcakes on it. I like the Kent St road trip. I noticed we play Jacksonville State. Isnt that Derrick Bruce's new school?

2016 RPIs:
SOUTHERN UTAH (341) WYOMING (152) LONG BEACH STATE (213) ST. JOHN'S (123) LOYOLA MARYMOUNT (153) EASTERN KENTUCKY (249) ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF (345) JACKSONVILLE STATE (291) SAINT LOUIS (239) KENT STATE (142)
Soft schedule. Southern Utah, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and Jacksonville State were RPI-killers last year. It should be noted that the bottom of Oregon State's schedule in 2015-16 was a little better but pretty much the same. However, 2015-16 Oregon State also played #1 RPI Kansas. If the Pac-12 is strong this year, it should offset the, so far, weak non-conference slate.

This is par for the course for OSU in basketball. Usually there's one high level game in there somewhere (a Maryland/OK St./Kansas/LSU), but typically it's a whole lot of junk. In the past, we've almost always suffered an early season soul crushing loss:
2016-17: vs. Savanna St. (60-63) SSU finished 13-16, 5th in the MEAC/vs. Portland (45-53) UP finished 11-22, 10th in WCC 2015-16: No soul crushing loss and guess what we made tourney 2014-15: @quinnipiac (52-60) Quinnipiac finished 15-15, 6th in MAAC 2013-14: vs. Coppin St (73-78) Coppin St. finished 12-20, 7th in MEAC 2012-13: vs. Towson (66-67) Towson finished 18-13, 2nd in CAA 2011-12: vs. Idaho (60-74) Idaho finished 19-14, 3rd in WAC 2010-11: @ Seattle (80-83) Seattle finished 11-22 and played as an independent 2009-10: vs. Seattle (48-99) Seattle (couldn't find info on their season, but holy crap this was the worst game of all time)/also lost to noted OSU killer Sacramento State.
Really I could probably go further, but I just wanted a reason to bring up the 51 point loss to Seattle again. It's truly the low point of my OSU fandom.

Wikipedia tells me the 2009-10 Redhawks went 17-14 with no mention of post season in Cameron Dollar's first season as their HC. (Yes, UCLA Cameron Dollar)........I debate whether that loss was my fandom low point or the one against some JC in Colorado (still traumatic enough that I don't recall the details) in (I believe) JJ's tenure was the absolute nadir. Sigh. Go Beavers!

I don't know where Osu finished, will just guess 250, so this is one team poised for at least 150 point jump in RPI by season end

Missouri MBB was bad last year (8-24) but is expected to do much better this year in the SEC. They are preseason picks at around #7 out of 14 teams. However, their new coach leaves me a bit skeptical (Cuonzo Martin).

Unless you're Lorenzo Romar with Markelle Fultz, being that bad with the potential #1 NBA draft pick is hard to do...

between Tres Tinkle and Stevie Thompson and Drew Eubanks there should be some wins this year. Still think lack of a decent ball handler makes this squad suspect.

Jacquori is already a decent point guard, and it sounds like Ethan Thompson has PG skills. Between the 2 of them, I think the PG spot will be fine. JM averaged 3.3 APG last year, but he was just a freshman and was dog tired because of the minutes he was having to put in. He'll do much better this year.

That loss to Western Oregon to start the 2014-2015 season wasn't soul crushing? Or is it that is didn't really count to be soul crushing?

messi - Oh that was soul crushing, but since it was an exhibition and the first game of the Tinkle era, I chose to believe that once he saw how his team was playing, he chose to let them beat themselves as a sort of lesson to prove to them that they needed to listen to him and play the way they the coaching staff wanted them to. Sort of like Robert Duvall letting Tom Cruise melt all his tires and redline his engine to prove to him that he could get better results by listening to him in Days of Thunder. By the way, you played great today vs. Juventus. You are a joy to watch.
