Miami has cancelled it's game with Arkansas State this weekend over "fear of hurricane Ivan". Sounds reasonable at first until you realize the game was AT Arkansas State. This will probably cost Arky St a great deal of money that they need to support their program. Sure looks like Miami is using Ivan to chicken out of a game there's a good chance they lose. They were worried the players might not be able to get back home due to hurricane damage. So it's better for player safety to stay directly in the path where the damage is occurring? It occurred last spring in college baseball. Florida was losing handily to a directional school, got rained out just shy of having enough innings played, and refused to complete the game later. Sadly, that's team was the eventual National Champion in June, so their lameness didn't come back to bite them!

More to life than college football and they have ~60 kids from Florida and 1 from Puerto Rico. If I'm staring down the barrel of a category 5, I'd rather be with my loved ones than worrying about mighty Arkansas State. I'd rather be helping my family prepare for the storm than watching film at a hotel. And after what we just saw in Houston? Absolutely.

Oh, and flying back to Miami Saturday Night or Sunday....yeah good luck with that. C'mon TS, this is awful, we are talking about potentially the worst hurricane to hit South Florida...ever.
Hey look they postponed an NFL game those pussies...screwing over all the fans like that!

They also played at Appalachian State last season, at Florida Atlantic in 2015 and are scheduled to play at Toledo next year. I really don't think they are trying to wiggle out of facing a mid-major on the road.

Wow, talk about a wicked I formation! 10 of the 82 worst hurricanes since 1953 have started with the letter "I," the most of any letter.

I guess I don't see how staying home directly in the hurricane's bullseye zone is in any conceivable way the safer option here. That game was the players free ticket out of harms way. Now most if not all will be stranded since gas stations are empty and plane tickets are nearly impossible to get. Let's just hope they all survive the storm. If I had the option to go play a game and get several hundred miles away from the hurricanes kill zone, I'm in.

That's kind of my point. Cancelling the game which was also the players free and likely only ticket to safety, may turn out to be a death sentence. I sure hope not, but as you've so aptly stated potentially the worst/deadliest hurricane to hit S. Florida. I'd sure rather be in Arkansas when it hits than right in it's path. Wouldn't you?

Meh...ask our players who have family in Houston if they're glad they weren't with their families to help out when the storm hit.

So, you're saying that you want all of the Miami players to pack up everything that they own and throw it on the team plane and then stay.............? The players get to board up their houses/apartments and then depart for a game? I'd rather be in Arkansas than Miami on Sunday, but that is assuming I get to do whatever I want to where I live beforehand and then pack up all that is important to me and take it with me. Let the Miami players do what they think is best and deal with football after Irma passes.

Cancelling the game and staying home doesn't mean they are just sitting there hanging out on South Beach waiting for Irma to hit. But again, big picture: I think I'd really rather be with my family then leave them all behind to go play tackle football.
