After several MRI's and second opinions from Orthopedic Surgeons in New York, Mike opted for surgery. He has a dislocated left shoulder and a torn posterior capsule of the left shoulder. The Arthroscopic procedure will include repairing the capsule tear and the tightening of surrounding ligaments to minimize the chance of a re occurrence of the injury in the future. Michael has a medical history of shoulder dislocation, but never a separation.
The surgery will be performed by the renowned shoulder surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles. Rehab for a scoped shoulder is long and extensive, normally 6 months but the Mets are cautioning everyone to wait until the surgery has been completed before putting a time frame on it. They have expressed concern over him being ready by spring training in 2018.
