Big difference. Dennis Erickson (who was still within striking distance of his prime AND a national championship caliber coach) > Gary Anderson.

At least we did not lose like we did to Sacramento State, who was a I-AA with a losing record that season. PSU looks like a decent Big Sky team at least.

Where's the "dead horse" gif and the WTF is the connection? Yep there is none! It's amazing that "dead animals" is all that some have to bring to the discussion.

The difference between the Sac State game and this game is that if you watched that game, you saw that the FCS team won due to some flukes and oddities, and bad timing on turnovers, special teams mistakes etc. This year, it was the FBS team that won due to flukes, oddities, and bad timing on turnovers & special teams mistakes. We outgained Sac State 510-391 that day. Lost on a missed chip shot field goal and a two point conversion in OT. Never should have allowed Sac State to hang around like that. PSU outgained us 515-389. Lost due to 3 missed kicks. Never should have allowed us to hang around like that. If we had played Sac State 9 more times in 2011, I'd expect us to win 9 of those. If we played PSU 9 more times this year? 50/50 might be generous. SaveSave

Sp you're sayin' this year is almost exactly the same, and we're a lock for a good bowl. Awesome! Honestly, I was trying to interject some veiled optimism into this board. Oregon State has had clumsy starts before and greatly improved as the season went on several times. 2000 is a great example. Stumble to an almost-loss to a 6-5 Eastern Washington team before rebounding and going 9-1 over the next 11 weeks. If Oregon State can do that this year, the Beavers are 10-2. I question much of what CGA does, but there is talent on this team. Now, if the coaches can just get out of the way of the talent.........

I should add that the time before 2000 that Oregon State played a close game to a 1-AA team was 1999, when Oregon State beat Georgia Southern 48-41 in a game that was tied 34-34 with seven minutes left. Of course, the Beavers then lost three straight before righting the ship and win four straight to clinch the first winning season in school history.
Conversely, of course, the time before that that Oregon State played a 1-AA team close was 1995, a 14-7 win over Idaho. Oregon State would lost 15 straight, ushering in a coach who would finally begin turning things around two years later. It should be noted that, just like the 2017 calendar matches up with 2000, it matches up with 1995, as well. Both 1995 and 2017 included misses with UCLA.
