I agree, but Clune had to be on board and say yeah man, it will work. Sorry, but heads must roll. It's only going to work, though, if the philosophy changes. No matter who the DC is, the fact of the matter is that CGA is calling the shots. Firing Clune without CGA altering the present philosophy is trying to install new drapes, while the floor is on fire. If anything, it is going to make things worse and not better. Agreed.

I'd trust at this point we all have a functioning set of eyeballs. I don't have the energy to list all the things wrong here. Just... lets just be done. Lets save the $2.5 million, let Baldwin be our interim HC for the year, and pay half of what we were paying Andersen to a hot coordinator coming up, and sprinkle in a mountain of incentives to sweeten the deal. Hey MoM, look at me! I'm on the internet! In your basement! Getting lots of attention! Dude! That's really inappropriate. ATown has been one of the most committed and loyal fans on this Board. No need to disrespect them like that.

Realistically, can OSU even ENTERTAIN the idea of firing GA? I'm talking from a strictly financial standpoint. projects.newsday.com/college-football-coaches-salaries-contracts/gary-andersen/Is his entire contract guaranteed money? If so, my calculations means we would owe him over 16 million dollars, to include the 2017 season (I really suck at math, so feel free to fact check this, just an estimation). Another way to think about this is...Can we afford not to fire him? I went to school at OSU in the early 80's. We are close to being that joke again. Go to some of the other boards and see the disrespect. What will be the attendance at the end of this season. There will be less than 10,000 people in the stands when two lifeless Teams met (ASU). And that's if it's a nice November day. How about recruiting? The first 2 games should fix are poor showing so far. There would be more money raised to help reach 11 million to fire GA then to support "the process" last but but not least...blow cheese, Mikey, CPO, Dirtbag or whatever do us all a favor and take your Dad back to Utah. Somewhere without Internet

If CGA doesn't fire his coordinators and upgrade, then I say something has to be done, especially if he doesn't recognize they can't coach.

Where's Prof when you need him?!
He'd tell us the fiscal side. My guess is that it would be a huge dent in the budget, but Prez Ray has access to that type of $. The same $ he used to upgrade to the current salaries. Does he want to dip into it again for athletics? Probably not, but can he afford not to if we were to believe his words about how important the football program is to the university when he approved GA hire? *Plus you also need a new staff being paid. So you're looking at closer to $18-20 mil thru 2021 if you get quality young/inexpensive staff.
The other question, are the asst coaches all guaranteed? The OC and DC salaries combined with GA's are a complete travesty when looking at their P5 experience and 20/20 hindsight of the success rate.
My guess from quickly researching other new staffs... you could prob hire (the success rate is always an unknown) a quality young staff with some older experienced vets for about half of what we're paying now.
My issue is with the GA, Ray, AD "connection". Why was there an extension in the 1st place? Where was GA going? And who cares?
Ed Ray is an extremely prideful, bordering on arrogant, when it comes to his decisions. Will he ever really make the move to fire "his hire and extension" without severe pressure? Would he pull a MR and say it's my way or find a new Prez?
Does the current AD have too close of connection to be truly objective? He worked with Paul Chryst, he knows what a quality rebuild and "process" looks like. He saw what savvy media and player/coach interactions look like. He can't truly approve of what he sees so far??

Economics suggests that we have at least two seasons left with Anderson, so this fire him talk is blowing off steam.

Economics suggests that we have at least two seasons left with Anderson, so this fire him talk is blowing off steam. I agree with you completely. I'm afraid GA will be around through the 2018 season. Barnes will look for any reason to hang on to him, particularly since his boss, President Ray, went all-in on the hire. Unless boosters get together to fund his buyout we are in trouble. That being said, I find it entertaining to discuss other HC possibilities. It provides me with a sense of hope, which is quickly fading.

Coach A and Barnes are good friends.... Coach A got Ed Ray to hire Barnes. Barnes won't fire him. This thread is just wishful thinking. Coach A is Teflon right now. If you don't like it...protest with your wallet. Don't buy tickets, don't buy gear. If fans don't show up....Ed Ray will have no choice. I'm going to Minnesota game, then I'm done. OSU isn't getting my money until it improves.

As long as season tix stay low there are two factors working... -new sales and renewals are one key factor in a coaches evaluation and program progress -23,000 season tix... GA gets a 5% (?) Bonus of every $ for season tix above the 23k number. Plus... you can spend a s%#te ton of $ less buying online the rest of this year and next and....

I was opposed to the "fire Helfrich" for most of the 2016 season. I felt that the Ducks could be better and that Helfrich had earned the chance to rebound in 2017 ... until the 2017 Civil War. I cannot honestly tell a fan base to "hang in there" and hope for the best from your current staff ... BUT STILL I can't help but think that it is risky business switching out. I felt this pain last year ... and now all I have is hope that things will be better this season.

That being said, I find it entertaining to discuss other HC possibilities. It provides me with a sense of hope, which is quickly fading. I think that the projection of 10,000 fans at home games by season's end is probably more accurate than we would ever want to admit. I have had season tickets since 2004 and have never missed a game. Regardless of how bad things evolve, I won't miss any this year either. I go no matter the potential conflicts, personal illness, weather conditions or how bad our current season may be. However, if something radical doesn't change with this team, I will not be renewing those season tickets, particularly if we go 1-11 yet have to retain GA due to economics or blind allegiance from administration. This will not be so much a "statement" decision, as a personal feeling that the steep price of those seats - especially with the attached BSAF "donations" - can't be justified to my wife or even to myself. The product and apparent direction of this program is not worthy of the financial investment for me. I bleed Beaver orange and black. I grew up following the Beavs, graduated from OSU, and have been dialed in for 47 years. I saw a lot of bad football in the 80's and 90's, honestly about JC level play at time. They could hardly give away tickets to games and the stadium would echo on game day. Few people outside staunch alumni could care less about OSU football. We were a universal college football joke, and most of us who remained remotely engaged had two favorite teams: the Beavs for strictly loyalty reasons, and some relevant power in the college landscape (for me, those schools were USC, Nebraska and Florida St). There was no conflict to be a Beaver fan AND a Trojan fan, because there was no way that the games with them could possibly be meaningful. I liked the hire of Gary Andersen when it happened because I thought he was a real up and comer who was turning heads. In fact, I couldn't believe our fortune when I heard the news. He wanted to be here! On the heels of losing a coach that I admired and appreciated, Christmas had come early. I believed that he'd bring swag and toughness and something fresh. However, even early on something seemed off. My coaching buddy went to a clinic where GA presented and told me that this guy was a fraud, but I wouldn't hear it. 33 months later, the evidence seems to be backing up my friend's assessment. To this points, it's quite possible that GA's teams have been the worst 3 teams at OSU since Petitbone's program took a dive. I have to fight this pending fear that we're in the middle of a mess that may set us back 25 years. If something drastic doesn't happen, I can't figure out how we're going ever fill Reser again, let alone expand it to "Big Boy Football" stadium status. I don't WANT GA to fail or for this to happen to our program, but I'm not sure we can do anything to prevent it. Beyond sad!

Because if beavs don't have even a slightly awesome head football coach we need to: A. panic B. stop supporting the team C. stop going to games (oh that's right, not doing that already, i double triple dog dare you) Maybe most beav fans stick with the team even when it's a sh!tshow because most beav fans are solid and not prone to crybaby ADD spoiled shortsighted attitudes. Maybe in the long run that allows a coach who looks like a loser now to actually look like a winner later. And maybe most beav fans are realizing whether that happens or not it's pretty much the only chance for success at this point, so might as well trust the process (yeah, yeah i know). But then "most beav fans" don't post here or even know this website exists. Thanks anyway Glove. Just trying to keep it real.
