About 36 hours until my friends and I will arrive at Reser for the first home game of the 2017 season! Very much looking forward to it. It will be hot, especially in our exposed seats on the "east" side, but better sun than rain. We'll just load up on suntan lotion, hats, sunglasses, and summer clothes. Not going to complain about summer, that's for sure. There will be Holiday weekend traffic, but I'm not going to complain about a Holiday weekend, that's for sure. There may not be a huge crowd, but I guarantee you that the seats near where I sit will be mostly full and it will be with fans just happy to see each other again and to be back to watching Beaver Football. Not going to complain about seeing my friends and joining like-minded fans in cheering for the Beavers, that's for sure. The last game I saw in person was the last home game of last season -- the Civil War win...the first since 2007. What a thing to see in person! My season ticket partner saw the 42-17 win over Arizona in Reser the week before. I was there for the OT win over Cal. Another great thing to see in person. Last season was a season of improvement and there was a heck of lot of fun to be had as a fan in Reser. Despite the disappointing road loss to start this season, I'm looking forward to a good game in Reser on Saturday. I could complain about the opening loss more. I could complain about the anticipated smallish crowd more. I could complain about the hot weather, the Holiday weekend traffic, the change at QB, and the fact that Nall will be sharing carries. I could complain about how Mike Riley smiles too much...errr... I mean how Gary Andersen talks too much about being tough. I could wring my hands over rumors that Mike Riley lost the lock....errr....I mean that Gary Andersen has a divided locker room. I could spend all my time thinking (and talking ) about how we would probably have more wins in the past 2.08 seasons if we hadn't fired....errr....lost our coach of a dozen years to another Power 5 school and replaced him with a coach from yet another Power 5 school. I could declare this season, this coach, this team, a dumpster fire, rant about how we can't hope to play better this week, predict 3 wins on the year at best, and pretty much spend all my time looking for reasons to be upset and see dark clouds in every aspect of everything. Nah. I think I'll remember the improvement through last season and not let one bad road loss in the new season knock me down for the count. I think I'll just continue to look forward to Saturday. A mere 36 hours until one of the precious 4 Saturdays that I will be spending in Reser this Fall cheering on the Beavers. Cheering on the Beavers in Corvallis and seeing hope for a win in every game just like I have every year. The team rewarded me several times last season and nothing could replace being there in person to see it when it happened. I'll see my friends, I'll hang out in the sun, I'll do what I can to help the team, and I'll still be home in time for Dinner. Does it get any better than that? Go Beavs! Mike '84

I feel the same way, Mike. History has shown (especially as a Beav fan) that there is always something we could complain about, but also so much to be thankful about. All of the positives that you mentioned are more than enough reasons to be pumped for the game tomorrow. I LOVE the game day atmosphere in Corvallis, no matter the size of the crowd or our record.
I will always be a huge Riley fan, but I was really excited when Andersen arrived. I really want him to succeed, but I'm a Beaver fan first and the coach will never be the primary reason. We've been through a lot of disappointing opening losses through the years, even at the beginning of some really good seasons. I just need to see improvement and a sense that our players aren't giving up. We are not nearly as bad as those teams from the 80's and 90's, but we have to keep moving forward or the outcomes for many fans will lead them to conclude that we are.
Thanks for posting again. I always enjoy your posts (partly because They almost always have echoed my thoughts...just that you often articulate them better than I do!)
