Stolen from Drunkandstoopid, thanks! It's great!
Juke El Trio is long gone! Parcus DeCarryon is gone! Even Cryin Fatz is gone! Let's get in the present. What's done is done. Whiskey under the bridge.
A lot of folks here saw so many negatives with him. I saw some, sure. It was his first game here for heck sakes! I saw a lot of positives. I think he will be a good qb. Give peace a chance!
I walk with Luton!

I walk with Luton! QB play is always scrutinized especially when people try to sugar coat average play with excuses. Luton is the QB, GA the coach. His system... ahhh... ok well lets move on. We all want Ws, but anyone who looks the other way at how 6-19 has happened is more of the problem than those who scrutinize. You can be a Beaver and not be happy at what transpires. We all should have high expectations, and have the same for the institution and its employees. Calling them out when they've failed in their duties. The final chapters are not written, but some want to pretend the first two+ were never written.

I will definitely root for Luton to succeed. After all, what choice do I have?
However, rooting for success does not equivocate to free pass for boneheaded mistakes or poor play. Not saying he did, either. But I also am not going to march down the positive until death path just because. I want the Beavs to succeed overall and for that to happen in little 'ol Corvallis we need everybody on the same page (and the right page to be selected to begin with). I wish Luton all the success in the world and hope that he defies whatever deficiencies we have in the system to become the best QB OSU has ever seen.

I thought for a first game at this level he did just fine. I'm hoping the pass protection was indicative of the type of pass protection we'll see this season, if not there could be some challenging afternoons/evenings ahead. It's not like We've seen any first year guy in that position come in and tear it up.
I kind of expected a loss in this game, and we were in it until the 4th quarter. Tighten a few things up and it still could be a decent season ahead.
Go Beavs!

A wise old man once told me, "if you want to be a Beaver fan, the first thing you should do is build a brick wall, then smash your head into it every morning" I've chosen the "drink heavily in the fall" option myself but was looking for a sale on bricks this morning Go Beavs!!

I thought blind optimism and "sunny-side up" thinking is what drove this program down into the depths in the first place......

Luton's raw abilities are fine. Strong arm combined with superior mobility and all that height make him look like a prototypical Pac-12 QB heading for a pro day workout when his career here is over. He'll get better. I was surprised to see he was as good as he was in his first game.

I don't think Luton is the problem, it's the coaching. Running fake zone read with a pure pocket passing QB is not taking advantage of the personnel or putting your players in position to succeed. This is a pocket passing, power running offensive roster.

I have been observing quietly for the past three years (have been a Beaver football fan for over 60 years). My conclusions about Coach Anderson and his program are:
(1) He is an "average" recruiter. Which given the disadvantages of Corvallis equates to having "below average" PAC 12 talent. I see little reasons to believe that this will change.
(2) He may be a good organizer and a good administrator but I believe he is well "below" average in terms of having a creative, talented football "mind". Coach Riley had many faults but he had an offense that was well thought out, well planned and based on a clear set of fundamental concepts(pro-set, drop back passer, lots of medium and long passing routes to stretch the field, etc.)
Coach Anderson seems to have something he calls "spread offense" which seems to consist of a different offensive coordinator every year, a random selection at the quarterback position, and after three years the only consistency is inconsistency.
(3) In the two areas-strong offensive line and defensive line- that I believe would give OSU the best chance to move up in the PAC 12, Coach Anderson's ability to recruit and coach have been the most lacking.
(4) My prediction for this years team is two wins (hope I am wrong)

We can root for him while still pointing out deficiencies. My son can't field a ground ball to save his life and is a liability on the infield, but goddamnit he's my favorite player and I support the crap out of him.
This idea that just because we think other players/coaches/teams are better means that we aren't "true" fans is crap and needs to stop. We know Del Rio and McMaryion aren't here. We know Mike Riley is eating sweet corn and wearing red. We're still Beaver fans. We still want them to win every week, even if they have no chance. Call me wrong, call me an idiot, but DO NOT question my love for Oregon State.
