...so please stop with the excuses because GA surely isn't giving any.
I didn't know if we would win or not, but I CERTAINLY didn't think we would lay an egg to start the college football season off. We have D1 athletes with a 15 yrd cushion on the edges and were STILL getting beat over the top. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the 3/4 scheme meant so more athletic LB's can be on the field to help with coverage? We were getting handled in the trenches (ok fine..we knew we wouldn't be amazing in that department based off last year) AND pass. What would be wrong with having Clune go to 4 linemen instead of 3? What about coach Hall having our DB's press/bump and run? What would be the harm in those changes? Worst case scenario...we still don't stop them in the pass OR run and get beat just as bad.

I have had the opportunity to spend some time in Denver several years ago and the altitude will kick your ass until you acclimate to it. My first morning there I started my morning run and barely made 2 of the 5 miles. After a month I was finally able to finish my usual 5 mile run.
The CSU team has been practicing in that environment for their entire camp and are acclimated to it.

I do believe we got a little bit "out of character" with our 'hurry up' offensive approach in the first 2 quarters..... It seems like for both the purposes of maximizing breathers between snaps AND keeping the CSU offence off the field you would run the play clock down, not quick snap it. I do appreciate GA not giving excuses, but similar to what beaverdude points out, I have a large portion of my development team sitting in Ft. Collins (boy did I hear about our loss today!), and when I visit I can tell immediately I am not in Kansas (well, in this case, the Williamette valley) anymore. Go Beavers!

While I agree with most of your sentiments, you don't just switch your base defense on the fly. It could be something to game plan for if you're playing Stanford, for example, but the fundamentals of gap control are different and those guys have spent the spring and fall learning to do things a certain way. Additionally, the ideal body types for your 3-4 and 4-3 defensive linemen are quite different.

The front 7 looked improved, but teams like Washington are going to rip Oregon State's front 7 apart without additional improvement. The defensive backfield looked bad. As I mentioned before the season started, I was concerned that the Beavers' DBs would be able to build on a great 2016. And indeed, it looks like the ghost of the 2015 defensive backfield has returned.
