If your qb cant run, don't run the read option. If you insist on running it, then DG should be the qb going forward. Beavs put up a better fight against a better Minnesota team first game last year. Daryl also won the Cal game so he isn't as bad as people think.

Just would have hit our OL in the back harder. Ha... kidding... ok, not really.

Indeed, very slow developing plays.
I'm not a fan of exclusively running the zone read, even when it's run well. IMO, it's a simple quarterback option offense with the QB in shotgun, rather than under center. The shotgun formation limits plays you can run.
My problem with MR's offense was the defense never had to defend the QB. But, it was better than what being run now.

Looks like we solved that problem. Now the defense never has to defend against anything.

If the QB is a real running threat, such as Mariota was, it is dangerous. opposite side DL and OLBs cannot commit to the RB, they have to defend their half of the field. If the QB is never going to run, it is idiocy... it is a very poor and inefficient way to run play action! If the coaches are expecting Luton to make run/pass option reads... just WTF? all that will every happen is the defense will hedge to the play side, shut it down, and force a pass. the opposite side DE can always play QB, every time. It is just... poor strategy. poorly conceived idea.

Put the QB under center and give the RB a chance to accelerate into the ball and hit the hole at speed! That is assuming there would be a hole

There were no holes for the running game. It was clear inside the stadium that there was no push - Jim Wilson said that was the Beavs' biggest problem on the postgame show that I streamed while driving out of Fort Collins. The pass protection was pretty good, which had something to do with why we threw more passes (also due to getting behind and needing to score quick). I'd get the criticism about not running the ball more IF we had any success running the football - which we did not aside from the 75-yard play by Nall.

I don't recall the ball being handed to the fly sweep 'threat' coming across the line either.....ok, maybe once. We seem to have sold out on running up the gut on only one read out of the zone read, and allowing CSU to completely sell out in defending it.
I also believe CSU picked up about where they left off last season offensively, and their defense got better (it helped we made them look that regardless). We have not yet (obviously) reached the point of continuity and building on where we got to in the prior season.
Go Beavers!
