Saw Kevin Roberts was removed from the staff list on the roster page. Odd thing is we just saw him at camp last month. No longer lists OSU on his twitter bio either. Any news? Did he take another job? Staff page now just lists Meeks and Ian Miller as assistants now. Sad to see him go. Good dude for a duck.

Rumor I've heard is that he was not renewed. They bumped up Meeks and Ian Miller and Joey Palmer is now on as volunteer assistant (I think last year Miller was the V.A.). This would match up what I saw at camp last month. Meeks and Miller were very active leading the camps, Palmer was working with the younger kids. Roberts was there but mostly watching (actually mostly looking at his phone). I have a feeling they wanted to get younger and more active in the room.
We'll see how that goes.. traded a ton of experience for youth..I see both sides of that coin. Glad they were able to find a spot for Miller though. He's a stud and going to help us a ton at those middle weights.

I like Meeks and Palmer, but I don't know if we will see improvement from our slight decline recently when we recruit coaches that have 1 top 8 finish between them. I am okay with going younger. While we get coaches with very little winning history at the top levels, better teams have several coaches with many top 8 finishes. I am not sure that the loyalty will serve the team the best. If Zalesky had several young former wrestlers with more than 1 top 8 finish to choose (at Oregon State) from there would be no issue, but there is only 1 and he did not want to go into coaching. I feel a little harsh in this observation because almost every year the team is a top 25 team. To Zalesky's credit Miller fits the mold that many other coaches are doing. A proven winner with instruction from other coaches to expand the knowledge in the room. Even Miller as coach is very familiar to Zalesky as he recruited him hard in high school and has kept in touch since then, from what I understand. We will have to see how this plays out, I hope that Meeks and Palmer are able to have more success as coaches than they did as wrestlers. Obviously Palmer and Meeks were good college wrestlers but not great (you could argue that Meeks was great his sophomore year when he finished 4th). I am hoping they can consistently train great college wrestlers. Another important key to this is the best programs have elite wrestlers who are training and have success at the international level. This is something we are missing right now. Meeks and Palmer help to fill this void. As far as I know, they both will be training to compete as well. Miller has stated he does not want to compete, yet he is the one who would add the most to this dynamic.

If it turns out Roberts was making derogatory comments about Amarveer Dhesi who is a Hindu or Ali Alshujery who is Muslim, specifically about their faith then it's totally inexcusable and he deserved to be cut loose.
