Olaf Schaftenaar also wears Landstede Basketball in the 2017-2018 season. The 248-year-old forward of 2.08 meters, who was voted "rookie of the year" in the Dutch Basketball League last season, and consequently hid a spot in the selection of Orange, has been joining the Zwolse eredivisionist for one year. "I'm fine and I look forward to the coming year," says Schaftenaar.

Prior to his coming to Zwolle (September 2016), Olaf Schaftenaar played for several years in America at Oregon State (Division 1 NCAA), where he co-basketed with Joe Burton (Landstede player in the 2014-2015 season). In the summer of 2016, the boom-long forward signed a contract with Spanish Huesca (LEB Gold), but got injured and had to leave. "Last season, of course, I was very lucky that Landstede attracted me as an injured player. The club also added the patience, which allowed me to return to fit within the lines again. I am very grateful to Landstede Basketball, "said the 24-year-old Schaftenaar, who looks forward to the coming basketball year. "I feel that there is still improvement in my game, So I think this is not the right time to go abroad. In addition, we now have a strong team in Zwolle, with experienced and talented players. "
Landstede Basketball Manager Adriaan van Bergen is, in turn, content with a longer stay at Olaf Schaftenaar in Zwolle. "We are glad that Olaf will be there again this season. He did well last year. Everybody looks forward to his three points, but he does a lot more. In particular, his team orientation is highly appreciated, "says Adriaan van Bergen.
