I saw a Tweet yesterday that reported that 6'9" OSU verbal commit Andrea Aquino has relocated to California (from New Jersey) and will be attending Ribet Academy in Los Angeles. Aquino continues to regularly Tweet about OSU women's basketball happenings as observed in the Twitter link below. A good sign that all is well with her verbal commitment to play for the Beavs. The early signing period for Class of 2018 girls basketball recruits is in the first half of November 2017. Looking forward to receiving confirmation at that time that each member of the Beavs' strong Class of 2018 recruiting class ( Aquino, Morris, Simmons, and Mayhue) has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play at Oregon State. ESPN continues to rank Aquino #6 overall (rated as the #2 center) in its Class of 2018 girls basketball recruiting rankings (see third link below). twitter.com/andrea_aquino6www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/215293

good find bhf - -I'm looking forward to learning how she made this cross-country change of schools... Ribet has a reputation as a good academic school but I don't know anything about their athletic history. Maybe the story of her transfer will come to light down the road....At any rate, I hope she continues to develop at Ribet, gets good post coaching, and continues to add good weight.... Her summer basketball has been quiet - and I still don't know why one of the few pictures I have been able to find of her this summer shows her in street gear while her teammates are in game gear.....
No matter how you slice it, AA is a damn interesting sports story - - with a touch of human drama thrown in.... Over and out......

I hope that she finds a better (temporary) home in California, from what I read, the whole NJ situation is either bad or horrific depending on the article. International human trafficking of kids to play sports is just wrong on all accounts.
It sounds like she is an excellent student, where better to go than OSU. She will have the benefit of the best post coach in the country and will be practicing against someone close to her size and ability in Morris. I can't wait to see what happens when Rueck starts with a highly rated post player or two.
I really don't think any of those four coming in next year are having second thoughts about which program to join.

I think that she is solid with OSU, but being in LA now, somehow I wouldn't be surprised if UCLA and/or USC tried to flip her. She might even attend a couple of their games, especially if OSU is visiting (I'm not sure as the 2017-18 schedule is not yet posted)

Hopefully, AA will sign with the Beavs in November before the WBB season is in full swing...If she doesn't sign in the early signing period then we might have a few worries.....

I would be quite surprised if AA flips to another school - she seems quite solid in her commitment. Judging from what is visible on her Twitter account ( twitter.com/andrea_aquino6), she has pinned her picture with her Mom and PM in Beaver gear, she is re-tweeting messages from BeaverWBB about Ruth and Jamie (I suspect she would consider Ruth to be a role model for her in a variety of ways, both academically and athletically), as well as assistant coach Katie Baker. She is also following several current and future Beaver WBB players. She also seems spiritually aligned with several of the players/coaches. Truth be told, I was more nervous about chances of her getting flipped had she remained on the East coast.... Lastly, I don't think the WBB team recruits a bunch of flighty folks. As 411500 points out, we can get nervous if she is not an early signee, but I don't know of many members of our teams that waited around for the late signing period in the SR era. I think most of them jump at the chance of being here, not try to sniff out a better deal and string us along. Hmmmmm, we must be a destination school/program or something :-). Go Beavers!

Has Scott ever lost a recruit that gave us a verbal? It doesn't seem to happen much at all in WBB. I've heard of UConn poaching girls committed to other schools, but I'm at a loss to recall any stories on the west coast.
I'm just glad that she's in a stable situation. Her new school looks to be first-class. It seems she's in a good development program. She is spending time with PM, who also seems to be a high-character girl. The future is looking so bright for Andrea.

I don't recall losing any players who gave us a verbal commitment in the Scott Rueck era. And it is not a very common thing in WBB, many more will seek a transfer after a year or two.
I can only hope that her situation is better now than in NJ, not sure if it could be much worse than it was at the beginning. It sounds like she ended up in a relatively stable situation living with a home economics teacher, at least she had warm clothes, school supplies and most importantly food.
The fact that AA moved to an area close to PM, and that they are playing on the same club team, gives us insight into their relationship. I doubt that either one is even looking at any other schools. Can you imagine how small a dorm room is going to seem with those two in it?
