The USA Baseball Collegiate Team posted a 15-5 record this summer against some talented competition from the Atlantic coast summer collegiate league teams and .national teams representing Cuba, Japan and Chinese Taipei. The USA Collegiate stars finished 5-1 against the U.S. teams, defeating the Catawba Valley Stars from the North Carolina-Virginia Summer College League twice, The Futures League All Stars, the Martinsville Mustangs and the Peninsula Pilots from the Coastal Plain Collegiate League. The USA team lost to the Coastal Plain League (N.C. Ga, and S.C) Elite Team.
USA Baseball took 4 of 4 against Chinese Taipei, 3 of 5 vs Cuba and 3 of 5 vs Japan. Caydn Grenier and Nick Madrigal sparkled in the field but faced some powerful pitching performances along the way. Both players missed the first six games on the schedule due to a prior commitment in Omaha. Nick hit in the leadoff spot or second in the order. Cadyn hit in the 7 and 8 hole. Here are their offensive stats.
GRENIER: (13 games) 6-39, .154 BA, 7 R, 2 RBI, 2 Doubles, 1 Home Run, 9 BB, 13 K 2/3 SB.
MADRIGAL: (14 games) 16-62, .258 BA, 7 R, 4 RBI, 1 Double, 1 Home Run, 5 BB, 6 K, 5/6 SB
Cadyn made the most of his 48 plate appearances. He had 6 hits, reached base on error twice and drew 9 walks, stole 2 bases, and scored 7 Runs. Nick started fast but tailed off some in the Cuba and Japan series. A good showing by the Beaver duo and great experience and exposure heading into their draft eligible year at OSU.
