With the summer baseball season winding down, I checked in on our young Beavers and have a few current stats to share.
Current through 7-20-'17.
In the Uber Competitive Cape Cod League, where the elite collegians learn to convert Aluminum into Wood, they schedule 45-47 games with the season beginning June 14, and culminating on August 3.
With the Wareham Gatemen, Steven Kwan is 21-61 (.344) with 10 runs, 11 RBI, 2 doubles, 6BB and 6 K’s. He’s 8/9 in stolen bases and has been solid defensively. Jordan Britton is buried in a 17 man pitching staff and has appeared in 3 games and logged 6 1/3 Innings, owns a 1-1 record, has allowed 9 hits, 4 BB and has struck out 6. His ERA is 5.68. 28 innings is the most pitched by any individual hurler on the team. The team has a 15-17 record YTD.
The Falmouth Commodores are 16-17 on the season and Trevor Larnach played in the League‘s All Star game recently. Larnach hit .275 in 24 games in 2016 for the Commodores. This summer, he’s 16-61 (.262) with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 homer, 6 runs, 9 BB and 21 strike outs. Adley Rutschman has played 13 games and is 8-42 (.190) with 1 double, 3 runs, 7 BB, 9 K’s and 1 stolen base. He’s playing behind a catcher from McClennon, TX J.C. that was a Houston Astros draft pick.
The Bourne Braves are 14-19 for the season and SS Andy Atwood has played in 14 games at SS going 5-33 at the plate (.152) with 4 runs, 3 RBI, 7 BB and 16 K’s. According to the club’s blog, he’s been good in the field.
In Canada, Darius Foster has contributed to the Otowok Dawgs 21-10 record and first place in their division. With 14 games left to play, Foster has raised his BA to .254 on a 15-59 performance at the plate. He has 2 doubles, a home run, 11 runs, 8 RBI, 8 BB, 18 K’s, and 5/6 on stolen base attempts.
In the West Coast Collegiate League, SS Andy Armstrong has given the Cowlitz Black Bears (Longview-Kelso) steady play at shortstop in their 19-19 season while hitting .302 (16-53) with 10 runs, 3 doubles, 1 home run, 3 BB, 6 K’s and 3 steals. This is Andy’s second summer with the Bears.
The Bend Elks are 19-22 so far with SS George Mendazona playing 16 games and hitting .255 on 12-47 with a double, triple and 16 runs scored. George has walked 10 times and struck out 7 times. He has 8 RBI and has stolen 3 bases. Freshman to be 3B Zach Clayton has played 17 games with 14-49 and a .286 BA with 3 doubles, 6 runs, 6 RBI, 5 BB and 11 K’s. Clayton has stolen 7 bases. OF Joe Casey has played in 9 games going 3-17 at the plate for a .176 BA with 1 double, 2 runs, 2 BB and 6 K’s.
The Bellingham Bells are 21-18 and RHP Tommy Paul has appeared in 6 games pitching 6 1/3 innings. He’s walked 7, struck out 5, allowed 9 runs on 10 hits . He is 0-1 with an ERA of 10.50.
The Corvallis Knights are rolling with a 26-15 record YTD. C Zak Taylor is 21-70 and a .300 BA with 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 12 runs, 15 RBI, 7 BB, 12 K’s, and 3 steals. RSF OF Elliot Willy has played in 17 games, is 7-35 (.200) with 12 BB, 12 K, and 9 runs. Willy has a double, home run and 1 SB. INF Tyler Malone has played in 9 games, hitting .111 on 3-27 with 6 BB, 5 K, and a stolen base. Freshman to be C Troy Claunch has played 21 games, is 14-66, a .212 BA with 2 homers, 4 runs, 4 BB, 17 K, 11 RBI, and 5 stolen bases. RSF RHP Dakota Donovan has made 7 appearances (1 start), pitched 14 innings, allowed 11 hits, 6 earned runs, 15 strike outs, 3 BB, a 1-0 record with a save. His ERA is 3.85.
* Preston Jones was scheduled to play with the Cowlitz Black Bears this summer. He didn't and I have been unable to find him anywhere on a summer roster. Need help on that one.
