not sure about matt long term, but mariners manager scott service said in the Seattle times that Sammy will remain it the rotation, that the demotion to AAA was so Sam could get some work over the all star break.

Sammy G gets squeezed by the umps constantly. He threw at least 10 pitches last night that were right on the black (as shown by the K box) and called balls. He threw four strikes to one guy who walked without lifting his bat off his shoulder. Even Mr. Oblivious, Mike Blowers, finally commented on it.
He can't succeed if pitches on the black are not called strikes. I've watched a lot of his games since he was called up, and last night was pretty typical. Plus the M's never score when he pitches.
Boyd had a rough first inning, but then threw five shutout innings and got the win.
