I wish him the best - seems really weird to get drafted almost at the end, but then come out with a $400,000 signing bonus. Not knocking it; putting that in the bank will help carry him through several minor league seasons, and he has the guaranteed schollie at the end. Just too bad he won't be in a Beavers Uni next season. Good Luck Kevin!

Interesting Brady Clark was mentioned as a mentor. His father Steve is my neighbor. Steve kicked for Prothro and pitched for Coleman in the early 60s. Last I looked Steve is still top 5 all-time ERA for the Beavs. I forwarded the article to him.

Interesting Brady Clark was mentioned as a mentor. His father Steve is my neighbor. Steve kicked for Prothro and pitched for Coleman in the early 60s. Last I looked Steve is still top 5 all-time ERA for the Beavs. I forwarded the article to him. Steve Clark was the kicker from 1962-1964, two of the greatest football teams of all-time: 1962 and 1964. He split time with Ankerson as a sophomore, notably missing the extra point in the Columbus Day Storm Game against Washington, which led to the 14-13 loss. (The game was played the day after the Storm in Multnomah Stadium without power. The players dressed and undressed in the locker rooms by candlelight.) Oregon State won the Liberty Bowl 6-0 in 1962. In 1964, as a senior, he kicked the game winning field goal against Washington. His field goal was also the difference the following weekend against Idaho. His extra point against Oregon with 54 seconds left also proved to be a game-winner in the 7-6 Civil War win. Oregon State's three Clark wins enabled the Beavers to play in the 1965 Rose Bowl at season's end, Oregon State's last Rose Bowl berth. Clark was drafted by Green Bay in the 1964 draft, and he looked like he would be the Packers kicker. However, before the season started, Green Bay traded a draft pick to New York for Don Chandler. Chandler would ultimately win the kicking battle with Clark (Chandler could also punt, which is what ultimately won him the job) and go on to win three NFL championships and two Super Bowls with the Packers. Clark never played a game in the NFL. In baseball, as of the start of the season, Steve Clark is second in ERA all-time, 1.92. Clark was a perfect 6-0 in 1962. His 1.46 ERA in 1964 was fifth-lowest entering this season. (Heimlich and Mulholland both passed him into first and fourth, respectively.) Oregon State won division crowns in baseball in 1962 and 1963, earning a place in the District 8 final against Santa Clara in 1962 and USC in 1963, losing both. (The Trojans beat the Beavers by a run in game one of the three-game-set.) Santa Clara finished second in the country in 1962, and the Trojans were national champions in 1963. Heck of a record.
