At least one (and possibly all) of the OSU WBB coaching staff is in Chicago to watch the 2017 Nike EYBL Nationals tournament beginning today and lasting until Wednesday. A total of 32 of the top Nike-sponsored girls basketball teams in the nation will be competing, including a very powerful Cal Stars Nike Elite squad that was 35-0 overall (10-0 in the EYBL) for the 2017 AAU season the last time I saw an update on the team's season record. Kat Tudor played for and won a national Nike EYBL title with that program in 2015. My guess is that the OSU coaching staff has made strong contacts (as well as possible verbal offers to) with a number of talented players on the Cal Stars roster.
A recent Tweet from assistant coach Katie Baker from Chicago is below along with some website links with info about the top girls AAU basketball talent that will be competing in Chicago during the next three days. Baker's recruiting touch should receive some of the credit for the series of early verbal offers that includes 6'9" Andrea Aquino, 6'7" Patricia Morris, Australia's 5'11" Jasmine Simmons, and 5'9" Katie Mayhue from South Albany HS. All four verbal commits are from the Class of 2018.
