Given Oregon's unbelievable recruiting this cycle and our standard June inventory of commits, I was thinking about something. If we went back to Dec 2014 and hired Taggart at OSU and Anderson stuck it out at Wisconsin until being hired by Oregon in Dec of 2016, would Anderson be f'ing crushing recruiting at UO at historic levels the way Taggart is? Would Taggart be luring big time players to OSU the way he is at IO? Or is this just a matter of UO's money attracting the kids and Taggart having a turnaround/coming upswing to sell to kids? Let me also say that it's JUNE...so much happens between now and LOI day so things may change significantly.
Taggert is one of a small handful of African American coaches for a top 10 to 15 program. It makes a difference, particularly when the only other black HC in your conference has an extremely limited pool of players to recruit from. Sumlin does very well, Charlie Strong did very well at Texas, but in the end you still have to win football games, and I think Taggert is facing a huge step up in competition coaching wise and conference wise. We shall see. There are no more Chip Kelly surprises. His ultimate success will come down to the brass tacks of football; talent, coaching, luck.
If GA was at Oregon, he'd do well, because it's Oregon, probably not this good, but he'd be bringing in your typical Oregon top 20-25 class with the occasional home run. If Taggert was at OSU, he'd not do remotely close to as well as he's doing.

To me, Taggert seem like a used car salesman; really have to wonder how much he really cares for the players with the conditioning debacle but more so, he must be making some huge promises to garner this much interest! But recruiting is a very weird thing. Things look great on paper yet; have any signed their LOI's? Are any of them on campus? Have any of them qualified yet? Have any of them suited up? And lastly, have any of them contributed on the field? The answer to all those questions should still be "No"!
Taggert is playing with the house's money right now. Come September it's gonna be put up or shut up time for him and his staff!

How they fare, even a close loss, vs Nebraska will determine the early fan base support/questioning. If they get thrashed at home in front of a 1:30pm Fox national TV audience, the fan base will be LOUD and divided. Those band wagoners will jump off with both feet. But, realistically with their schedule they should be 5-1, maybe 6-0 going in to Stanford if the "hard ass" (Leavitt is a 180 from Hoke... some players might not take to the change?!) turns the defense into something even average.

The Nebraska game is going to be really interesting. Going to be a new look Nebraska with Tommy gone and a real Riley QB under center. Transfer QB, and a gun slinger at that. nice crop of young, but highly recruited WRs. He has also done really well on recruiting the lines. New DC, new scheme, going 3-4 which could be a strength against Oregon. Riley is no stranger to Autzen. Bob Diaco faced Willie Taggart for 3 years as HC of Connecticut losing all 3, but making 2 of them pretty close. familiarity is there from both fronts. Oregon is re-engerized and hungry, but still has a huge youth movement they have to rely on, need to really change culture and of course, need to learn new schemes on both sides of the ball. You ain't fixing that defense overnight. Shoot out in Eugene?

Next to the Beavs beating Minnesota that weekend, nothing would make me happier than to see the Huskers come in and kick the absolute crap out of them.
