The win-loss record slowly became the focus, and it didn't necessarily prepare them to do what champions do...close. They got back with the wisdom gained from coming up a little short, and we all saw what happened.
Circumstances are different obviously, and there are uncertainties like elephants in the room. But if we manage to get things stabilized, get a group committed to moving forward together, and at least one wicked arm...we will be back.
We needed a warm up in 2005 let's not forget. And I am no longer going to freak about Saturday games in March. Nice 15 loss team in Omaha would be just fine.
Maybe get some top ten series on the books early too..

Being a national seed and getting to host a regional and super regional should always be a goal - just makes it that much easier to get to Omaha - but the #1 overall seed just isn't important at all. Once you get to the CWS, anybody can beat anybody so it just doesn't matter. A few more losses wouldn't have hurt at all. But hard to second guess the coaches or team. Obviously hard to prepare for the best pitcher in the nation being out for supers and the CWS - don't think anyone could have seen that coming on the eve of the Supers. All things considered, I'm proud of what this team accomplished.
