The undefeated teams in Omaha, but judging from the play of the two teams who got that this week, it doesn't appear that it helped. We had great momentum after Monday, but didn't look like the same club the last two days. During the regular season, this team got on a roll as the weekend progressed, playing game after game without breaks. Tiger fans would say that we didn't play anyone like them during the regular season. While it's true that they are one of the better teams around, I always felt that we just ramped it up when things got tough.
This is not to take anything away from LSU. We knew that they were solid, and they did their job, fighting back from elimination 3 straight days. I told a friend yesterday that I would have much rather have won yesterday 13-1 after losing game 2 in the winners to the Tigers 3-1. I'm not sure they recover from a beat down the next day against us. They earned their opportunity.
I wish that Casey had challenged that foul ball call yesterday. There's a very good chance that we win that one if it's tied late. Just one of those things, and we definitely can't fault coach, even as he later rued the fact that he didn't press it.
This was disappointing, but in no way takes away from the spectacular year that the Beavs put together. Even with late major adversity, we beat opponents in 7 straight playoff games and were a hair away from playing for the title. No question that I believe that we're one of the top 2 or 3 teams, as good as anyone, in the country. So much to appreciate about this entire group!
