Omaha papers sports section today had multiple pics of the CWS from the first day. All were in color, except ours. Purely random? I don't think so. We still get no respect. But that will end tomorrow night, when we beat their darling, LSU.

This is weak man. You need a hobby or something. Wait a minute...YOU go the trouble of commenting that a mild post/poster on an obscure forum needs a "hobby or something" and we're supposed to take you seriously? Just remember pal....a rat always smells his own hole first.

I believe it. Just wander over to ESEC, er, ESPN. Let's roll out four video pieces about how LSU "has a chance" against OSU, but what about OSU "having a chance" against the Tigers? Shouldn't we get fair time to laud our opponents?

I did get rather sick of ESPN Fawning over Brendan Mckay. Don't get me wrong the kid is damn good, but too me no question Luke is better. I thought I might be seeing Second Comming.

More importantly - Who ordered the Code Red? Was it Ben McDonald or Col. Jessup?

Look at it this way....if they start talking about the CWS being a formality on the way to crowning OSU national champions, nobody is going to tune in to watch. It's why nobody watched the NBA all season until the two teams that were actually good got together and played. If they say LSU has no shot, everyone tunes out. Instead, they have to talk up LSU, so the common fan says "wow, we might see the best team in college baseball history get beat today! I better make sure I'm in front of my TV to watch!"
How's that saying go about granting me the ability to accept things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the knowledge to know the difference? I'll take playing the game the right way, winning 95% of our games, and a team we can be proud of over national recognition any day.

Agreed...and the only time that I care about recognition for our team is after winning they CWS title. When you've got a bullseye on you and everyone touts you as the favorite, it is devastating when things don't work out. The taunts feel louder, the disappointment larger when you're "supposed" to win and fail. There are even fans who pull for the other team for no other reason than that you are the favorite. Beaver Nation knows how good this team is. The record that we end up with is assured already of being one of the best of all time. There is nothing "lucky" about the Beavs being in this position, but neither would LSU or Louisville, Florida or whoever in Omaha be lucky to win this whole thing. If I allow myself to start feeling like the Beavs are underappreciate, I'll start imagining slights where they don't exist, and the pure joy of this I credible season could get buried beneath that martyr narrative, especially if we stumble in the CWS. Besides, anyone who would try to minimize this OSU team at this point is either. 1) incredibly uninformed/unknowledgable, 2) jealous/ bitter, 3) arrogant/myopic, 4) not very bright....or all of the above! Go Beavs!!

We all view these things through Beaver colored glasses. It's OUR school so we want the recognition, but it's time to kind of face facts - in the west, people just don't care as much about sports....for reference, the average SEC football game draws twice as many viewers as the average Pac-12 football game. For instance, Auburn-Georgia on CBS drew 4.992M fans on November 12th...a 12:30 kickoff Pacific Time. At the time, Auburn was ranked 8th and 7-2. Georgia was unranked and 5-4.
That same day, a primetime game on Fox between an unranked 6-3 USC and a 9-0 4th ranked Washington drew 4.301M fans. There's no question which was the bigger game with more national impact. Fact is that more people care about the SEC than care about the Pac-12....and a hell of a lot more people care about LSU than Oregon State. ESPN has to look at things from a national perspective. It's a numbers game, and we're almost always going to be on the losing side. We are too big to be considered a cinderella story a la Coastal Carolina, or Gonzaga in basketball, or Boise State in football, and we're too small for us to be considered nationally relevant. It sucks, but it's where we are. Accept it.
Just like we are going to accept our national championship trophy next week.
