Just a remarkable group of kids and coaches! Losing your best pitcher - a guy who gave up slightly ove 1 run every TWO GAMES COMBINED - might have been enough to cause a lot of good teams to cave. All the Beavs did was now down a solid Vandy team in 2 to get to Omaha.
So, on the eve of our trip to Omaha, one of our regular position players tests positive on a drug test and gets left home. It's not so much Donahue's absence from a performance perspective, although he definitely has an important role on our team. Ordinary teams could start developing a complex and/or become fatalistic, but this team won't do it!
Add the fact that fans of opponents and even some analysts never miss a chance to dismiss us. Come on people, a 55-4 team from a Power 5 conference that is traditionally (though not necessarily this season) right there as the best in the country. Our schedule was too soft, or we haven't had to endure the crucible that is the SEC (sound familiar?) or even the mighty ACC with their vast # of national titles over the last half-century (cue crickets here).
Most people outside of Oregon have no clue about this team. We certainly did have plenty of nail-biters this year. Almost every series in conference play (even each of the 7 that we SWEPT) had at least one game that went to the wire. Guess what America, of those dozen or more games, we lost 2 all year!
Today was another example of being written off. No way an ordinary team spots one as good as CSF a 5-1 lead early and comes back to win it. Not even most strong clubs get that done.
I say, keep undervaluing us out there. Do it at your own peril. Your team may look prettier at times or have higher draft picks, but be careful not to blink when you play this team. 20+ opponents will tell you that it hasn't ended well for them to this year in 55 of 59 cases.
We may not win this thing, but there's nobody in the country who's better than OSU in a 3 games series this year, and I love our chances!
