First things first - here's a good article by, of all places, ESPN, on the field as a whole and its lack of true underdog schools (this is a LOADED field - whoever wins it all can't have it said that they had it easy, that's for sure).

Second, yeah, what has happened lately has sucked. Losing Luke and Chris is awful, and while I could write a ten-page essay on such topics, I'm not going to. But let's remember something really important:
This team is 54-4, arguably the deepest we've ever seen in Beaver colors, and is going to Omaha with not just a chance to win the title, but to be the best team ever, period.
This season has been spectacular. Seriously, we don't realize how good we have it. We could have twice as many losses and be #1 still. Triple would still give us a likely national seed and likely conference title. Every time someone was out, we had someone else ready and able to step up, do the job, and succeed. The TCU coach in the above article even said "It can go any direction at any point. We understand that you're not going to win them all, unless you're Oregon State." It may have been a good-natured statement, but it was also staggeringly accurate - we've actually gotten to where we could simply expect not just wins, but sweeps, all year long. Even from '05 to '07, we couldn't say that.
Seriously, this ride has been positively unreal. Yes, it stinks - bad - that we won't have Luke or Chris. Yes, I want them there too. But we won't. That does not in any way take away from how unbelievable this season has been.
Maybe we should focus on that a little more, for hopefully another week and a half. This team still has something to prove - and that is that they're the best team in college baseball. They're not one player, they're a baseball machine, and one that's built to grind up and through Omaha. They've given us 58 games of stuff to cheer about so far... Let's enjoy watching them get us five more wins and make history. They deserve it.
But we should enjoy what's left of this ride. Because come end of June, this season is over, title or no. So let's not wail and gnash teeth. Oregon State has been the consensus #1 since March for a reason.
Let's cheer our boys on while they go gnaw these fools and show why.
Go Beavs.
