It's a true shame it came to this.
Probably the best way for him to repair his reputation.
I hope the University comes through for him.

Well guess we don't have any question as to the Friday starter next season.

Well guess we don't have any question as to the Friday starter next season. That's IF he's allowed to continue as part of the baseball team. No guarantees on that yet.

Ed Ray has released a statement, saying he is welcome to play next season.

How true, as we've seen in this story so far, what is really the truth? Luke recused himself? University officials decided Friday before the Supers? Which is it here? And, saying he's welcome next year seems to be a fairly simple way to get out of the line of fire today. I have no interest in random guessing games, but the way the university handled this I'm sincerely doubtful Luke pitches for OSU next year.

Ed Ray has released a statement, saying he is welcome to play next season. I'm a bit disgusted by this letter, It does a great job of saying Luke can come back but please don't. Stating at the end he plans on finding out if he can blackball players in similar situation.

I would expect Ray to hold himself to his own statement, but it could also be that Luke has no intention of pitching for OSU next year but simply wanted that info out in the open so that he can negotiate a free-agent contract with an MLB team with some leverage? It would be hard for Ed Ray to backtrack on this.

Mr. Ray is quite the politician and seems capable of letting it be known Luke is unwanted leaving Luke really no other option than the "best interest" letters. After the first "recusal" then finding out it wasn't really Luke's choice Ed Rays words ring absolutely hollow.

Pac-12 has already (or will be shortly) banning transfer athletes with serious legal issues. Seems like we are headed for restrictions on freshman recruits next

He'll have no record come August. And the Pac 12 can't have rules that supersede state laws regarding what you can and can't ask.

Seems like there's an opportunity here if the players are willing to take advantage of it. Luke has done everything required of him according to our laws and one can certainly understand him not wanting to volunteer the info before it was public. Well, it's out now and Luke has a decision to make. Can't hide it anymore, everyone knows, so use that for something good. Yeah, you screwed up in a big way, so how can you help others from making similar mistakes? How can you help victims? How can you help offenders find some form of regret and redemption? Luke is in the spotlight now and that means he has a platform. Demonstrate that you have regrets and you have learned a valuable lesson by turning this mess into something that does actual good. If he does that, I think nobody will care if he plays baseball next year.

The harm done all involved in this situation far outweighs any benefit from the knowledge that came out the past two weeks. I pray for the girl, the family, and the community in Washington, for Luke, for everyone on his team and for Beaver Nation on all sides - just a horrible two weeks. Dr. Ray, know that you have deferred nothing.

My belief is that these two statements from Heimlich and Ray have given Luke the necessary leverage to deal with Major League ballclubs this summer and negotiate a decent free-agent contract.
My prediction is that he'll take the summer off from baseball, he'll have his records sealed in August, and shortly after that he'll sign a FA contract during the off-season, and be quietly placed in some minor league club in the summer of 2018.
Just how I see things playing out...

Even though he stated that he plans to return to OSU, get his degree, and pitch? Since there will be no money for him in signing as a free agent, why wouldn't he return to get a degree and make another championship run?
