And if not. Why not?
To me, every player on every OSU sports team deserves the chance to compete and achieve whatever level of excellence he or she is capable of. As long as they comply with the rules and requirements of the University, the team and the sport.
As I said in a previous post, if there is information that LH did not comply with those requirements - and that is the reason he's not allowed to compete in Omaha - I hope that information is made public.

Unlike some crimes, some feel that there is apparently no rehabilitation possible for Luke Heimlich that involves baseball.
One thing is for certain, relegating the Luke Heimlich posts to the Richard Taylor Memorial Board is appropriate.
If Richard were alive today, he'd have some new names to add to the Douchebag Hall of Fame on the side of his Beavermobile. Danny Moran, John Canzano, and more.

As far as LH goes. It sounds like he has complied with every requirement placed upon him. I trust Casey, he believes it is his job to improve the character of the young men he leads. I believe he will do what is in everyone's best interest.

For some folks what Luke did (regardless of age) is "an unforgivable sin"... That is a direct quote from a friend I was trying to have a reasonable conversation with about the subject... We quickly changed subjects at that point.. You and I may not agree, but for a large number of people child molestation has been so traumatic and/or so stigmatized that Luke could have literally killed the poor girl and that would be redeemable, but touching her inappropriately (once, repeatedly doesn't matter) is not. |

Those "feelings" should be supported by actual facts. The facts show that for juvenile offenders rehabilitation is likely and recidivism is relatively low. Facts should >> feelings. |

This is the strangest situation ever.
If this happened during his freshman year of college instead of his freshman year of high school, there would be no debate. Everyone would be in agreement that he should not play at OSU.
If this had been known when we were recruiting him (by the public, I mean), I think everyone would be pretty adamant that we not sign him.
So I don't think you can discount someone's feelings. Feelings trump facts all the time. It's why people bungee jump or skydive or do any number of things. It's why guys dump women who are in medical school for the girl who dances at the Landing Strip. It's why you take the long way home to avoid traffic even though it will take you longer than if you'd just puttered along at 35 mph. Hell, it's why Donald Trump is our president.
Do I want him to pitch for OSU? No. I don't think I would enjoy watching him throw the baseball anymore. Do I think OSU should bar him from pitching for them because I don't feel comfortable with it? Nope. Either the school and coaching staff has known all along and have been fine with him pitching up until now, or they didn't know because the way the laws work they weren't supposed to know. In either case, there's no real reason he can't pitch for OSU.
The third option is that they should've known, but someone dropped the ball and the proper people weren't notified. If that's the case, OSU has the out to say that they never would've accepted him onto the team knowing his history, but everything I've heard from Casey says that isn't the case, and that they believe in him and want him on the team.

They've always split it. I could be mistaken, but as far as I can tell, everything Moran has done in the past week or so hasn't required him to interview anyone or even show up at Goss. Stuff like: - Luke draft status uncertain (ya think Danny?) - Red Sox draft Jake Thompson - Brewers draft KJ - Max named Scholar-Athlete of the Year - Thompson and Madrigal named All-Americans He can do all of those stories without ever setting foot near campus. Heck, I could do those stories from my supercomputer after running the TPS reports. |
