Someone was telling me the other day that Vandy player, Will Toffey, was talking trash to Madrigal during game one. Apparently, Parker talked about it on the radio during game 2. Can anyone confirm this and/or know the details? Obviously, Nick got the last laugh.

If anyone on Vandy could get away with it, it was Toffey because no one was stopping him at the plate, but I don't know that it was anything other than the typical chirping, but Toffey was the one who had to wait to shake hands with Madrigal at the end, after the OSU team photo following the sweep.

Toffey and Vandy catcher Delay just off the draft board in the 4th round. Thompson still sitting there as one of the MLB rated top 10 available.

When Madrigal hit the double and adanced to third on the throw in the first game, Toffey started chirping at Nick. Nick was chirping back, and the ump walked up and gave the word in a classy but effective manner.

I want to say one thing about the Vandy series & specifically their CF Kendall. On the ball he misplayed that went over his head, did anyone notice how non-chalantly he went after the ball? Reminded me of a little league slacker who was upset he made a bad play who would get chewed out in the dugout for not finishing the play. IIRC, there was a close play at the plate on that play.

One of my favorite plays in the Vandy series. Donahue had an excellent read on the ball from first, and was watching Adley's actions at second. Very good baserunning by Christian as he made sure that he was not pushing the play into a costly base running mistake. Great slide at the plate to avoid the fine relay.

Acknowledgement from one of their best players that they were finished.

Yep, I noticed that as well. I can imagine the coaches screaming at him to hustle!

Yep, I noticed that as well. I can imagine the coaches screaming at him to hustle! he was quite casual... likely in deep gloom knowing all chances were gone. Still, given the closeness of the play at plate, Donahue's great slide may have been for naught with a quicker ball retrieval. Or 3rd base coach may have held him up

The Vandy catcher has himself an arm and a quick release. If you can gun our base stealers, you have something.

Their catcher had some nice throws, but it looked to me like the Game 2 Caught Stealing plays were actually hit-and-run. One was a strikeout-throwout DP on a full count with 1 down, so pretty clearly the runner was started to stay out of a DP. The other I remember was a 3-1 count the batter took off the plate, and half the stadium (including me) thought it was ball 4 to advance the runner. One of the CS was Madrigal, and he did not get a good jump at all, which is why I thought it was hit-and-run and not a read of the pitcher for a steal. Does anyone know if either were straight steals if they were actually hit-and-run?

But, he admitted that when you give the runner a green light like that, the batter doesn't know the runner is going, so he has no chance to try and protect him vs a fastball.

I might be misremembering but I thought Casey said on at least one of them that he gave Madrigal the freedom to go with his instincts on at least one of the steals.
