They are without a doubt the best Beaver baseball team ever, and perhaps the greatest College baseball team of all time.
This weekend should have erased all doubts. They may have gotten sucker punched, but baby, did they ever answer the bell. Dominant on the mound, masterful glove work in both the infield and outfield, and the batting order is solid up and down the line.
And perhaps most important, coached up by Casey and Co. to deal with adversity and move on. A tip of the cap to Case, Nate, and Bales. You guys didn't join the dogpile last night, but you rock.
They are an unstoppable force. I do not care who they face in Omaha. If they play like they did at Goss, they are going to come back to Corvallis the 2017 CWS champion.
GO BEAVS! Make us proud!

I think the most impressive thing about this team is it's ability both pitching wise and at the plate to impose their will on the other team. I have seen twice now, once last night against the Vandy "Ace" and against the WSU closer where through sheer discipline of laying off close pitches and forcing the pitcher to throw strikes they end up winning through sheer force of will. When they get a ball in the zone they hammer it. If it's not a strike they take it. If it's too close they foul it off. It is a thing of beauty to watch.
The 2 run scoring innings both happened after two were out. I saw a total refusal to quit, an intensity of focus that is clear to the pitcher. Regardless of where they are in the order, every one of these kids make contact and put the ball in play, forcing the defense to make all the plays. It is a pressure that Vandy pitching and defense could not handle last night.
In the 7th, the freshman they brought in had good stuff and decent location and we nailed him for extra bases and runs. That quickly took the wind out of his sails and from a psychological perspective we owned him till he got knocked out. He was scared to pitch to us.
Against WSU we forced their best pitcher to load the bases again by forcing him to throw strikes in situations that made him uncomfortable. Ultimately he walked in the winning run because we put the bats on our shoulders, and fouled off his best stuff until he cracked.
That level of dominance is highly unusual and rarely seen in team sports. It's special and needs to be enjoyed because as a previous poster said this may be the best "team" ever at OSU from top to bottom.
Fear the Beaver!

I hate to say it, but Holy Cross, Yale and Vanderbilt weren't exactly powerhouses this year. I can't go as far as unstoppable force just yet. There's some tough games ahead.

Holy Cross won their league championship tournament after a so-so regular season. Yale started slow and won most of their remaining games to wine the Ivy League title. Vandy beat a higher seed to win the regional.
I believe that the Beavers have elevated their game, set aside distractions, and made it easy to say those 3 clubs weren't up to the challenge.
Go Beavs! Bring the title back to Corvallis!!

Dave, I for one want to thank you for your tireless optimism. During times where I have had some doubts about the beavers, most recently in the light of our Friday night starter, you've always had your eye on the long game. Your posts always give me a mental and emotional boost when it comes to our Beavers.
You are right, this is a SPECIAL team. Mentally tough with a razor focus on the game at hand.

Water on the fire... I know...
But, our regional was soft. Vandy is good individually, but did not overly impress me with team fundamentals.
That said... (2) seasons down with great success. The 3rd yet to come. It's baseball we've rode a freaking tsunami up til now. But all 8 teams in Omaha will be good and "on a roll" (cuz they're butter... sorry couldn't resist).
Greatest record in OSU history? Yep. Most talented? My vote is no and explained why in an earlier thread. Best team in OSU and NCAA history? Yes... IF THEY WIN THE TROPHY. The championship means everything when measuring against other champions.

You are most welcome. And yes, I have had my orange colored glasses on since late February. I make no apologies for my passion, as I feel it is well deserved this year. There is no way they are going 31-1 at Goss again, not in my lifetime. I loved every minute of it. And I am sorry I will miss the riot scene at Reser, when they come back with the hardware. The Ramp's, Roy, and I will be driving back across the Plains at that time. Full of memories so thick we will have to brush them away from our faces.

They did nothing for me. buncha teams that looked like they are fighting themselves to lose it. LSU Missipissi state? zzzzz Foolerton St. Long beach? Foolerton st didn't exactly square up on Long Beach st, they just squeaked by. etc etc. there is one team in the CWS that looks like an all timer. If you cant see that you are blind.

I agree......did not see much to be afraid of but baseball being baseball I will not feel secure until June 27th or 28th. But we sure look like the team to beat......hands down.

"Not much to be afraid of."
Y'all sound like all those SEC honks we've been clowning in the wake of lighting up Vandy.

Not sure whether that is a question or a statement but if you are interested here is my take. I would never consider winning a championship a done deal until its done. Once the season is complete I will evaluate their place in OSU Baseball History. The CWS will be a competition, not a coronation. As of this moment only 2 OSU baseball teams have won National Championships. To your original question "Do I doubt this Beaver team?". No I don't doubt that they are an exceptional team with an excellent chance to win the National Championship. That much they've proven.

Ya... you prob said that about them in 2013 too?! I've seen too many sure things not happen. Like I said... 3rd season about to begin. Every team there has done some work and thinks it's their year. 54-4 will mean nothing, 8 teams teams @ 0-0. Stating such obvious facts doesn't mean OSU isn't the fav in my mind. But, then again I've got 20/20 vision and value a trophy over a W/L record. But, as awesome and unbelievable as 54-4 is it got us to the same spot as 7 other teams... including 39-22 "Foolerton".
