ESPN just reported Heimlich will not start today's game, and did include mention his sex offender history. No mention of Saturday. I'm not here to give my overall opinions on that situation right now.
So, instead you get my baseball opinion. Regardless of anything else, it makes the most sense to me to start Jake Thompson because of last weekend's rotation and the full week of rest.

Seems like a wise choice to me.

So we get two big rock chuckers up there, 13-0 vs 10-3. Should be a really interesting game, to put it mildly. Force this kid to throw 100 pitches by the end of the 5th, and we should have them right where we want them.

My guess is tonight's starter selection has little/nothing to do with the fuss of the last day or so. Stated simply, Luke threw much better with an extra day's rest last week and a start tomorrow night would give him the full week's rest. Jake's had his week...he's ready to go tonight.
Dollar to doughnuts -- PC has long been well aware of the LH situation and has been monitoring that from the start. He's undoubtedly hacked off that the Oregonian choose to publicize a private tragedy for no one's benefit except the Oregonian, but I can't see Pat letting let that effect how things proceed from here on out.

I hope he is too, but I'm not confident.
Let Eggers "Luke Heimlich will not pitch tonight— his decision. Wants to do what’s in best interest of team & not be distraction. Jake Thompson to start"

If PC has been aware from the very beginning then the recruitment of a sex offender two years removed is highly questionable. Also if PC was aware how did the team not have a handler for Luke? Seems like the top priority would have been to make sure he was on top of his registration as a sex offender.

Why did the DA dismiss the charges?

Why did the DA dismiss the charges? My understanding is that there was unfamiliarity with Oregon laws, once the issue was taken care of, the ticket was dropped.

Why did the DA dismiss the charges? You'd have to ask the DA that question to get the real answer. We can assume that it wasn't up to the level that the DA felt was necessary to pursue.

Maybe the fact that Benton County did not start enforcing this law until recently it remained on the books but they never did anything. Surprised by a warrant for not complying with this new law Luke resolved it and the charge was dropped for the reason I just stated.
