Yep, the timing is so obvious for their new clickbait style of journalism.

I dumped the Oregonian long ago. Of course I was sick of their Bias and obvious support the Crazies in Portland. But this kind of timing trying to hurt a young man is over the Top. They had to do it 24 hours before the most important game in the kids life. WOW...

They just got the full report back last week if you read the whole article...should they have sat on it till after the CWS? When was the right time to post it? Sorry I draw the line at sexual assault, especially against kids. Its fn sickening and I am not going to let the article timing change the facts

Who is changing the facts? In the eyes of the law, the matter was dealt with.

Sports writers should not be crossing over into the crime beat. I think a reporter with a background in juvenile crimes would treat the story much differently. Pairing the sports writer with a "watchdog" reporter probably made it worse. This will get national coverage, which in the end, is what any reporter and newspaper wants. The Drudge Report awaits. I'm sure Casey brings in whatever experts he needs into the locker room to help the team get through this. He is the guy you want to address this.

"It's not a pit stop to pro ball. There's so much more to it than that. It's a chance for our guys to change their lives, to become better people as well as players." This is the real story..... Don't tear a young man down, for a past mistake. Especially given the timing and the behavior since. I am sure that the people that really matter will provide the support that Luke and his family, and all those around him deserve. I think it is pretty apparent that this article was timed to impact the school and the program. When the shoe was on the other foot, and it dealt with uo athletes and three members of the basketball team...... everything was treated quite differently. The fact that those athletes were adults and that the actions occurred during the basketball season on the way to the Tournament - was handled, let's say, in a 'protect the program at all cost's manner, and uo plus the media understood and bought into that.

Not a rhetorical question. It was not. this is clear and simple mudracking for clicks. Your only response is simple. do not click. if you subscribe to the little O. cancel. indefensible article that was written today.

I appreciate the heads up. I will certainly not be reading the article on little o to generate clicks.
They have the right to publish the story, but the timing was purely malicious. No two ways about it. Then again, I dont believe in coincidences.
If I'm any player at OSU, I would refuse to answer any questions by this reporter or Grant any quotes or interviews. I think he lost any good faith. Again, talking about that the timing here...

Again they got the report back last week...should they have published it a week ago, maybe I can give you that. I would see the same stories on here about the timing though. Bottom line is this is a sick act and you can make your own value judgments about whether he should be playing or not.

Sorry I draw the line at sexual assault, especially against kids. Its fn sickening and I am not going to let the article timing change the facts I think the timing seems forced. I think there are three gaps in the story that a non-sports writer would fill before rushing to press. First, the discussion of what other school do in these cases is based on a small sample. They could have done more there. Second, more expert interviews were needed from psychologists that deal with this topic. The balance of the article is is skewed toward the "importance" of the perps upcoming game. That makes it comes off as biased in my opinion. Third, they could have unmasked more perps and provided context on how they are integrating back into society. There maybe perps that would talk, without attribution, as to how they have changed or the struggle they still face. Shallow and biased, bordering on slander, is my opinion of the piece. Not defending the crime, just critiquing the journalism.

I know he pleaded guilty and is a registered sex offender...good grief I cant believe you are defending this again, i don't know anything. You don't know anything. Not defending anything because i don't know anything. You don't know anything either but for some reason you are riding around like Clint Eastwood in Pale Rider. I read the article like you and as I said before we can each make our own judgments whether this player deserves to play and if you want to support him based on the facts of the case as presented. I do take issue with attacking Danny etc. when he just got the report last week. Should he have just sat on it and not reported it? Should he have released it before the Yale game Sunday? I don't know what you wanted him to do

I could not disagree with you guys more on this one, for one simple fact:
If they had posted this in April, without having all the facts from the public records request, you people would be questioning the timing and saying "how dare they run with this in the middle of a historic Pac-12 season without having all the facts?" Frankly I think it's a little disturbing that you find the biggest fault to lie with the reporters reporting facts than anyone else involved with the situation.
I am sensitive to the fact that people make mistakes as children. But this was not a single mistake....this was two years of abuse of a preschool age kid. That's not something you just shrug off as "kids will be kids." Do I think he can (and probably has) turned his life around since then? Yes, and that's to his credit.
Do I think that OSU didn't have any idea there was an issue prior to today? No, I do not. I would think, given the quotes from the victim's mother in the story" that at some point she would have contacted OSU to say "how dare you have this person at your school or on your team." Who received that message, I don't know. Furthermore, it appears that OSU receives a list of all registers sex offenders enrolled at school from the police regularly. I don't think that OSU or the baseball team was under any sort of obligation to disclose this information to the public. There's no law saying they have to, and I don't think they're under some sort of moral obligation to report on a student's juvenile record.
There are so many things I don't know, that I can't say with any certainty what should or should not have happened. I can say with 100% certainty that I'm not upset at the Oregonian staff for reporting facts....and that I don't care if they reported it the day before he pitches, the day after he pitches, six years from now, whenever. The information they provided was not speculation, slander, or "unfair" to Heimlich. He did those things. I'm not upset with OSU for allowing him to be a student or to play baseball. It really is what it is, and what it is is unfortunate on every level.
Every few years there is some sort of criminal issue with the baseball program: Mike Lissman stealing money from his great-uncle in the hospital, Anton Maxwell/John Wallace/Jorge Reyes firing a rifle and hitting the neighbors house and car, Ben Wetzler breaking and entering, Clay Bauer breaking into University Market and assaulting an employee, Nate Yeskie's DUII in 2011....it seems like the baseball program has had more than its share of run ins with the law.
