Both won agains superior opponents in their tourneys. Each win worth twice as much as our win.
First, Oregon State's game today counts for approximately 1/198 of Oregon State's total RPI score. (Because of weighting, a win would actually count for approximately 1/327 of Oregon State's total RPI score. A loss would count toward approximately 1/142 of Oregon State's total RPI score. That assumes that Oregon State goes 1-1 over the final two. Those numbers would increase if Oregon State wins the final two and decrease if Oregon State losses the final two.)
A win by Duke or Indiana today is worth approximately 1/2652 of Oregon State's total RPI score. (Since Duke and Indiana each played Oregon State twice, each is doubled in the opponents' record component.)
Thus, ignoring the weighting, each win by Oregon State is worth approximately 13 times as much as each win by each opponent that Oregon State played twice.
Putting that aside for a second:
Duke beat Clemson and Virginia the past two days to advance to play the Florida State-Louisville winner tomorrow. The Blue Devils are still on the outside looking in right now. Duke's RPI is currently 86.
Indiana dropped its opener to Minnesota but rebounded to beat #24 Michigan to stay alive and play Minnesota gain tonight. Indiana would leapfrog Oklahoma into #25 in RPI with a win but would fall to #28 with a loss. Record against top 25 RPI teams is a metric that the committee looks at. Currently, Oregon State is 6-0 (3-0 against Arizona and 3-0 against Stanford). If Indiana moves into the top 25, Oregon State's record against the top 25 RPI teams would be 8-0. The Hoosiers were on the right side of the bubble coming into the weekend. Two more wins would probably clinch them a spot. Short of that, Indiana will probably be sweating it out on Sunday.
#22 Nebraska won the Big Ten regular season championship. Nebraska beat Purdue in the opener but lost to Iowa in game 2. Nebraska now plays Maryland for a chance to play Iowa in the semifinals. The Cornhuskers were on the right side of the bubble coming into the weekend. Two more wins would probably clinch them a spot. Short of that, Nebraska will probably be sweating it out on Sunday.
Ohio State finished 8-16 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes' season is over.
UC Davis plays UC Irvine in Irvine to end the season. Irvine won the opener. UC Davis' season will conclude after the series.
Ball State played Oregon State four times. Ball State went 0-2 in the MAC Tournament to end their season.
St. Mary's went 0-2 in the WCC Tournament. This likely ends the Gaels' season.
Portland finished 5-22 in the WCC. The Pilots' season is over.
The only other game affecting the opponents' record component of RPI is Oregon-UCLA. As Oregon and Oregon State played each other four times, Oregon's wins help Oregon State's opponents' component. UCLA won the opener to all-but-officially eliminate Oregon.
