Daniel should be celebrated. Because he played with JOY on the field. Maybe since Darwin we have not seen that outward expression of having fun playing. Maybe Max in CF (when he took a bad read on a fly ball and then recovered to make a spectacular catch) He doesn't have a typical baseball body. A bit thick and not the elite speed. But he has made himself a major leaguer. 6 years in the minors moving up through A/AA/AAA. 125 games in MLB (so far) Maybe he's going to be a career Utility player. Great! Keep collecting per diem and MLB credits. I think we have all witnessed players that have elite talent but choose to waste "the gift". Daniel has gotten the very most of every ounce of talent he has been given. And so we celebrate him. www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/roberda09.shtmlYou know who reminds me of him on the current team? Jack Anderson. He does everything right. OK, I think he missed a bunt in the last 2 weeks. But if you need a ball to the right side to move runners he's your guy. Need a deep fly ball to score a run? Jack can do it. I have heard he has got zero interest from scouts. So he may have to do it the "Daniel way". (after 1 more year!)

Ok, I'll buy that. For THAT, he should be celebrated. My point -- which is being missed -- it that there is too much of this sophomoric theft of an athlete's notoriety. The, "Wow! Gee wiz! So-and-so when to MY school!" is really off-putting. Celebrate the fact that they are getting their shot. But, geez, Louise, celebrating throwing out a runner. Are we supposed to do that every time a former Beav gets a hit? Scores a run? Handles the ball well on defense every single time? I'm sorry. These young men were trained by the best there is -- Pat Casey. We should expect them to make that throw. Every.single.time. When [If] he sticks. THAT's cause for celebration. Because the odds ain't that great.

Robertson is NOT a career MiLB. Without looking at his stats, I know he played for the Rangers, the Angels, and I believe the Mariners too. He is a really good guy, who made his mark in the single season he played at OSU. I have his cased Angels jersey, and he personally signed the glass for me at a Diamond Dinner two years ago. Yes, let's celebrate him. He is a tough hombre, and I love his never say die attitude. Go get'em Daniel! Sorry, but yes he is. Right now, 92% of his ABs have been in MiLB. Let's hope he never sees another bus and has a long career in the bigs.

Maybe if the original post was in reference to getting a hit or scoring a run your argument would be validated but it was a link to a game he had which MLB.com decided was worthy of being highlighted with the caption "Outfielder triples, makes 2 sparkling defensive plays, including game-saving assist" He was also interviewed about the game and his teammates were interviewed about him. IMO if MLB.com or any other sports media chooses to Highlight a former Beaver then it is definitely worthwhile to talk about.

Because the odds ain't that great. Sophomoric theft? You know the odds of even getting a swing at the plate or an inning in the field at the pro level - I am going to celebrate the success of every Beaver player that gets that shot, that loves the game enough to endure the minors until one day the coach calls them into the office and tells them to get to the airport, the show is calling. Coach Casey celebrates for each of them, because he knows what it is like to almost, almost get there, put in years, and not quite get a chance to make a big throw in the show.

What a weird response. Let's see, we can either...
1) Ignore an informational post that we don't think is very relevant and move on (despite the fact that it's an mlb.com writeup about a former Beaver who had quite a few fans back when he wore the ol' orange and black)...
OR
2) Go on and on about how people are sophomoric for not having the same tastes and preferences in their message board chatter.
One of these is the douchebag response. Congratulations on picking it...
GO BEAVS!

What in the heck are we arguing about here? Are we seriously arguing what people get to be happy about? I loved Jonah Nickerson so much I named my son after him, and I got giddy every time I saw him have a good start in the minors. Had I been a part of a message board, I probably would've posted some story about him throwing a complete game two hitter vs. Cedar Rapids in A ball, because MAYBE someone else out there was pulling hard for him to make it as well. Now, if I had posted the article and said "He's a sure-fire major leaguer now...can't wait to see him in the 2010 All Star Game!" go ahead and rake me over the coals for being delusional.
We're better than this, people. I'm not going to give up on this board becoming the most civilized and respectful board in college sports.

Aren't you the person that chastised me for using the phrase "lets call a spade a spade" because at one time, 80 years ago, it was an obscure slur used to denigrate black people? when 99% of the people understand the idiom to mean "call a shovel a shovel" or even more broad, "call a thing what it is" Yes you are. Now you are telling us to NOT celebrate an OSU player because he has been, basically, mediocre in his professional career. I am not sure what to make of this, other than somebody here likes to be a gatekeeper. Ain't nobody likes gatekeepers. Don't be a gatekeeper. www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Gatekeeping
