When I first started watching Beaver games on TV this year, I remember thinking that our catcher might need to tone it down a bit. He got awfully excited on strikeouts, and I worried it might be bad form and maybe piss off the other team a little.
But as I've watched this team week in and week out (thank gawd for Pac-12 channel and DVRs!), it's obvious that Adley just has an infectious enthusiasm for the game that's fun to watch. It's become a fixture to see him walk back to the dugout every inning while patting the pitcher on the back, usually with a big grin on his face. A couple times on Saturday, he and Jake were full-on yukking it up while walking off the field.
His happy-go-lucky style and the way he spreads that enthusiasm around the team strikes me as....dare I say it?...Barney-esque.
I look forward to Rutschman being a leader in that Beaver clubhouse for the next 3 years...
GO BEAVS!

He is a really good young player but the coaches have said he has a ways to go defensively, in terms of framing pitches, moving the zone around and keeping infielders aligned. Logan Ice was a master at these things. He can be even better!

Logan Ice was a master at these things. He can be even better! Very accurate and the scouts perspective also... he is not really close to a pure backstop... yet. Loads of potential, and do not be surprised to see a young catcher signed and AR moved to a corner OF spot, or to 1B.

Catchers lose pop in their bat over the course of a season because of the unnatural splaying of the leg ligaments and just generally getting beat up. He's got a sweet swing and maybe doesn't need to catch his ride to the bigs. See what i did there.

I would say that moving him to another position is possible, but highly unlikely. The one thing he has that you can't teach, is an unreal release time to second, combined with accuracy. I think it was stated here before that a good pro catcher catch and release is on the order of 1.9 seconds, and his is 1.75. No one steals with much success against him, in fact they hardly try anymore.
He also has a great disposition and works well with the umps and his pitchers. The rest of the skills will come along with practice.

He has all the potential in the world behind the plate, and the best teachers in the country to help him harness it.

I thought just today that I too am seeing the makings of a real clubhouse leader in young Mr. Rutschman. I know PC has spoken very highly of him a number of times this year, and he is not one to carelessly heap praise on his players. We have a great guy behind the plate. I hope he can continue to be a two sport college athlete. Not an easy task there.
