I think it's a very nice opportunity to do an end-of-regular season "warm-up" prior to the post-season. Winning the games is a matter of knowing your opponent, executing the game, and competing at a high level physically and mentally, just like always but with much less pressure. Warm, loose, successful, and confident. That's how you'd want to enter post-season.

The PAC schedule really messes with the team stuck with the final-week bye, to the point that a fix should really be made. The only teams available to play are teams not eligible for their conference tourney, or those without a tourney that also have an odd number of teams. As near as I can tell, teams with early conference tourneys simply do not play afterward, so the only team I can find that OSU could have scheduled other than non-eligible teams is the odd team in the Big West, which this year is CS Northridge (rpi 170). A possible fix to maximize the Pac's postseason strength of schedule might be to give the previous season's last place team an arranged match-up with the same from the Big West, needing only to determine the home team. www.ncaa.com/news/baseball/article/2017-05-21/2017-division-i-baseball-conference-tournaments-automatic-qualifers2018 Pac-12 Conference Baseball Tournament. Fixed. The Pac-12 hoses itself every year without a conference tournament. The Ivy League (Yale) and Patriot (Holy Cross) champions play each other twice this weekend. Teams that Oregon State could have played instead of Abilene Christian: Grand Canyon (RPI: 130) Cal State Northridge (RPI: 170) UMass Lowell (RPI: 179) Incarnate Word (RPI: 271) New York Tech (RPI: 294) Cal State Northridge obviously plays in the similarly unbalanced Big West. New York Tech is an independent. The other four are in their final year of transitioning to Division 1. Notably, Abilene Christian has the worst RPI of the four transitioning choices. New York Tech would have been the only worse choice. Grand Canyon actually won the WAC regular season championship, its second regular season WAC championship in three seasons. Other teams that Oregon State could have creatively scheduled by making deals with other conferences: Tennessee (RPI: 56) Michigan State (RPI: 77) Dartmouth (RPI: 113) Butler (RPI: 157) Fordham (RPI: 187) Pepperdine (RPI: 194) Air Force (RPI: 200) Monmouth (RPI: 208) Bucknell (RPI: 227) Jackson State (RPI: 228) Buffalo (RP: 229) SIUE (RPI: 231) Charleston Southern (RPI: 235) James Madison (RPI: 236) Norfolk State (RPI: 248) Long Island (RPI: 249)

Northridge had the best RPI (138) and Grand Canyon had the second-best RPI (213). Abilene Christian had the third-best RPI (216). And Abilene Christian finished 10 1/2 games back of Grand Canyon. The problem is that Grand Canyon finished 3 1/2 games better, and Abilene Christian is 3 1/2 games worse.

The ACU players should be getting excited, its not very often you get to face up against the best team in the nation at their place for four games. And if they're not excited about it, then they shouldn't be playing.
Here is their team stats page, ACU Season Stats. Those pitching numbers are just butt ugly, the OSU batters may have the pitches go a few feet further compared to Pac-12 pitching before deciding to swing or not. And if they can't find the strike zone, these may be long games. But at least the weather will be good.
As for the end of season absence of conference play, I recall in 2005 the Beavers didn't play anyone and just had a scrimmage. Remembered watching Danny Anderson going yard against Gunderson in that game. Also in 2008, OSU finished with a series against University of The Pacific. A pitcher for the Tigers would pitch for OSU the very next season, Tyler Waldron.

Just find the easiest team to schedule. Absent creative scheduling, scheduling Grand Canyon would have made a lot more sense.

Guaranteed that we will not go into the postseason on a 15 game winning streak, since we are at 12 now. Much better to go into the postseason on a 16 game streak, than to have an embarrassing loss to ACU. My prediction: 2 total blowouts, 1 average fairly easy win, and 1 that makes us sweat. 2 total blowouts: 1 down, 1 to go 1 average fairly easy win: 1 to go 1 that makes us sweat: complete
